First Support Group Meeting Tonight

I am going to attend my first support group meeting tonight at Celebration Hospital.  I need it, but I'm not sure if what I am needing is what they are offering in this group.  Life issues is what I am having.  It's not issues with my surgery or the changes that is going on, or maybe it is...hell if I know.

I am going to make an appointment with my therapist.  There are so many questions I have running through my head...this being the main one...I am generally a very patient and understanding person, but how much can one person take before they just say, this **** ain't worth it?  I know this is vague as hell, but I just needed to unload a little bit.

I am so sorry this is a downer post because I am usually one who's hopes are high and am always cheerful.  Just must be one of those days...LOL!  Sorry gang!

Diane, go to the meeting with an open mind.  Even though I do not have a suregery date yet, I have been attending the support meetings in Ocala.  They are great!!!  I met so many people at all stages in this journey.  I'm sure that there are other people that must be or have felt the way you are feeling.  Join in the discussions, ask alot of questions but most of all enjoy the new friendships to be made.

If all else fails, you always have your therapist and OH to fall back on, but I don't think you will need us.  Go and have a good time!!!!

Diane, I don't know how this support group is run, but most hospital or surgeon's support groups deal mostly with pre-ops, and with post-op physical issues.  Most support groups don't have time to deal with life issues.  You need to find a support group, that is more geared towards post-ops and the issues they deal with; a support group that is not going to spend half the meeting answering insurance questions.  The support group teh at Kristen and I have started is going to be that kind of support group, I'm six years post and have been involved in the weight loss surgery community for the last ten years, Kristen is three years post, and has numerous family members who have had different weight loss surgeries.  So we have seen and heard it all.  This is why we decided to start our own support group, so that we could offer more varied support.

Good luck and feel free to PM me any time, I will be willing to help you any way I can, or come to our support group meeting today.  You are also a member of our OH group, post your questions and issues there, we have many long term post-ops who have seen, heard, or done it all, and are more than willing to help.

Good luck,

Steve

I wish I could have went Steve but I live in Apopka and just couldn't make it down there.  However, I do plan on attending just as soon as I can and I appreciate your offer for support...don't be surprised if I don't PM you and Kristen out of the blue

How did the meeting go?

Hey Diane,  I do beleive there is a support group closer than Celebration.  My sister was talking about going and I think it is on Wednesday or Thursday.  I will ask for the details, because I want to go to one too.  maybe we can get together and go.  Just a thought.  I'l find out details and let you know.

Oh and there is a support group meeting once a month at Health Central.  I do not know much about it but I know that they do have meetings.  You might check with Dr. Harold's office to see if they are open to all post-ops.  Dr. Harold has invited me to attend but I never have gone since he does not do the DS.  But he is a great guy.
