Heard last week that my insurance United had denied because my employer had opted not to pay the additional premiums for coverage for weight loss surgery. Spoke with Benefits Coordinator in HR and she was unaware of the need to pay additional premium for this rider. So she contacted insurance company and no go. Because my employer has not done this and until they would renegotiate ( over a year from now), it will not be covered. The Medical Director at United does not believe that insurance company should cover the surgery under any cir****tance until further documentation is provided regarding the long term effects of the surgery and cost effectiveness of surgery. So I am now pursuing the self pay route. I am determined to have the surgery and will hopefully have the financing figured out soon. Keep me in your thoughts!

Julie, I had already decided that if BC/BS denied me I would put it on a charge card if I had too. I figure if my husband can pay $25,000 for a new truck then a new, healthy body would be worth at least that much. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do! Best wishes, Joy

Julie, No! There is hope for you. Go through the department of Vocational Rehab. You have been denied by your insurance which is ok. Vocational Rehab can help you. I went through them and Dr. Haicken is my doctor. If you want to talk with me by phone e-mail me and I will give you my phone number. But it is possible. THERE IS HOPE FOR YOU.....

Julie, I hope you find a way, I too was denied, and had to self pay. It was well worth every penny I had to pay. I hope you find a way. Good luck.
