Good morning everyone. I just got my pre-op orders from Dr. Jawad's office and I was wondering if anyone here would know why he requires your husband or a relative over 18 to attend the pre-op appt. with you? The appt. lasts 3-4 hours, my husband can arrange to go but it must be hard for some. In my letter it says that if you fail to bring someone your surgery will be cancelled! I will ask them on the 5th when we go but I thought maybe someone here knew already. Also, after the appt. I have to go to ORMC for pre-admitt testing? What tests are typical? Thanks,Joy P.S. I started my full liq. diet yesterday. It feels good to be doing something towards my goal.

Hi Joy, I never heard of that requirement. I did all of mine on my own during my lunch hour at work. Maybe it is just your surgeon. What kind of tests are they going to perform? I had the blood work, chest x-ray and an upper GI. Maybe if yours are more extensive you might need someone there. I hope this helps and you will be on the losing side soon, so congratulations!!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck, Christine -40

My surgeon also required a PFT test, stress test, EKG, and gall bladder ultrasound. Good Luck! Erika L

I also had an EKG and I have no gall bladder. I don't know why they did not have be do a PFT or Stress Test. Maybe if you have problems in those area's and I don't. Well, Good Luck with your tests. Christine -40

Thanks guys, I've already had a TSH (I take thyroid med, synthroid) and H Pylori, I have no gallbladder. What's a PFT? I guess all will be revealed to me on the 5th, I'll let you know what they do. Thanks again, Joy

Hi Joy, as you know, I called Dr. Jawad's office today and asked a little about this requirement and apparently he wants someone else present besides the patient that will understand the risks involved in the procedure. It may be a liability thing, I'm not sure! It also sounded to me like someone needs to be there at the time of the surgery as well. As far as the ORMC pre-op testing, I'm sure blood work is necessary to make sure the H & H and iron and some other stuff is within normal limits. What else they do, I have NO clue!! But YOU will find out before ME!!! I'm excited for ya!!
