Hi!!! I am Paige and I had my surgery on 7/16/04. I am down 29 lbs in total, 14 of that since surgery. My surgery went really well. It took about 2 hours. Longer than some because I had a hernia that had to be repaired. About 5 hours after I woke up, my husband and my support person forced me up for my first walk. After that I walked about every 2 hours. I am still on liquids and still doing the heprin shots. I am looking forward to Thursday when I can stop the shots and move to a pureed diet. I am really enjoying reading all of your posts! Paige

Welcome to the board and Congratulations Paige, you are doing great! How much longer did it take for the hernia to be repaired. I am going to be having that done? Was he able to do it laproscopically?

It added about 30 - 45 minutes to the total surgery time. I had an open procedure because of the hernia. I have to tell you, just my experience, but the hernia repair has been the most painful part of my surgery. The GB part has not really caused me that much pain, but the hernia part is still painful today. He did say that mine was bad though, so maybe yours will be different. Paige

Paige was the hernia in you stomach? Mine is hiatal hernia? But I am having an EGD soon to see if there are any in my stomach. I hope you start feeling better soon...my hernia feels like a throbbing in between my boobs and believe there is no room there for a thing!

Hey - mine was in my belly button. I know what you mean about the throbbing pain. That was exactly how mine felt. My doctor told me that when fixing a hernia, they should use mesh to correct it. But, because of the GB, they can't use the mesh. This means that there is a 15 percent chance of it coming back. Oh Great! I have so much pain where my hernia was that I called the doctor today to ask if he thought it could have already come back. The surgical nurse said that she doubted it. She said that she was not surprised about the amount of pain that I am still in. I hope yours is better!!! Paige

Had a feeling it was in your belly...I hope it starts to feel better soon. Having some tests next week I hope they do not find one in my stomach, next to last one showed a mass but follow up showed clear. Well soon this will be over, the pain I mean and you will look back and remember the pain..LOL that is something I never forget..but you will be so happy you did this. I still harp on the pain from my labor and that was 34 years ago next week...I remember it like it was yesterday...people kept saying oh you will forget as soon as you see the baby! hahaha they were wrong.

Hi and welcome to the FL board. Glad you are here. Hope all goes well. I know it will take a few days(weeks) to feel better, so I am told, not there yet. Marla
