New to the FL. Board

Hi I just moved here from Utah and very interseted in getting lapband surgery. I am reading everyones stories and I am more determined then ever. My husband just got a job with a company that has blue cross blue sheild I have heard they cover the surgery. Does any one know for sure? I am excited to learn more about the surgery and get moving toward a surgery date. I have two small children that would love it if I could do more with them. I would love it if anyone would like to be a friend and write to me and give support. Thank you.

Welcome to the board. We have lots of nice people here and they can answer lots of questions for you. They sure have been good about all my questions. Don't know much about blue cross but hear they are trying to stop paying but since Medicare has declared obesity a disease, things will change and before long all insurances will have to pay for this. Can't help you with the answer to BC/BS but I can welcome you to the forum. I am sure someone will have an for you, they always come thru for me.

Danette, welcome to the Florida boards, I see you are in Largo. Have you found a surgeon yet? If you haven't decided yet, my surgeon is Largo, his name is Barry Haicken. Good morning Danette. Welcome. I don't know about the LB surgery but I have BC/BS through my husbands work also and I was just approved for the RNYGB. A friend of mine works for BC/BS of FL in Jax and she said that I am lucky that ours is out of Western NY because they are approving less and less out of the FL office. However, she says that the public outcry is tremendous! She thinks they will have to rethink the Dec. 31st cut off date. Maybe you should call your BC/BS and ask them. Best of luck. Joy

Danette, WELCOME TO THE FLORIDA BOARD! We are a friendly bunch and will offer support and advice when possible. We have heard talk that after the first of the year, BC/BS was not going to cover WLS anymore, but I believe it depends on which type of insurance you have. I would suggest you call your insurance company and ask them for specifics on what is needed to get approved for the surgery then go from there. Fingers crossed, it is smooth sailing for you.
