Hi, I am writing here about my daughter who has had the RNYsurgery 7 weeks ago. The first week, well every one knows the diarhrea thing. the 2nd week she got black bm and wastaken to her general doctor which is Dr. Rogal, who is a Heart surgeon and head of surgery at Mem. and Uch,, I think ...but after examination called an ambulance and sent her to hospital. She was internally bleeding and blood was too low needed blood right away. She got 5 pints, they took all the gastric colonic procedures but found nothing,...so they said. and then sent her home. Had to go back the next week lost more blood and got 3 pints. Finally they sent in another doctor and he said she had an ulcerated stomach, yeah that size of a thumb stomach. hmmm. Anyway, She had to keep going back to liquids, etc. now she has problems with yogurt that she loved before and there are just about 2 or 3 things she can tolerate. She refuses to drink Whey Protein, make her feel like vomiting, well actually she will take one taste and dry heave, which that is on of the worst things she will try to avoid at all costs. She's lost 59 pounds in 6th week. she is also on Carafate and protonics. does anyone have any suggestions or has this happen to you too?

Cathy, I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. I cant offer any suggestions other than to stay positive and hopeful. I hope things turn around quickly for her and that she is back on track with a normal recovery. I'm sure this is extremely draining for her both emotionally and physically. Please let us know how she is doing. Amy

I haven't had surgery yet but I have heard great things about the soy protein. My husband has to drink that because of his surgery many years ago. He can't tolerate the whey. Also we found that blending it with ice made it easier for him to tolerate at times. Make sure she is taking all the vitamins and B-12 sublimal that she is required. Does she have a support system with her doctor. Keep asking questions until they get her feeling better. Dont just take what is said as gospel. Get second opinions. I will be saying extra prayers for her and you all through this hard time. Tell her to get on the message board and talk. This board is a great group of people to talk to. They are very willing to help with what ever she or you want to talk about or ask. Carol

Sounds like IBS which is a problem I have. Can't do regular yogurt that has sugar. Sugar and I don't get along, sends me right to the bathroom. Now I have not had surgery yet but I am living on Slimfast LoCarb (2 net carb- no refined sugar) protein is 20grams and it taste great but I'm don't think she would be getting enough protien. I have the same problems she has and I am not post opt as yet but I know you have got to stay away from the sugar. Sending prayers her way for a speedy recovery.
