denied first request
I just put in my first request for gastric bypass and it was denied because I did not have information showing that i had six months of weight loss i sent all the information that BC/BS was requesting and hopefully I will get the sugary .
I would like to know if anyone got authorization after being denied for gastric bypass when you don't have what the insurance is asking for , but you meet criteria ![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/mbgraphics/emoticons/shrug.gif)

kerry- blue cross has this company, intracorp, that does it's precertifications. in my experience with them over 2 years i found out that they are sticklers. when the first request was denied due to the 6month diet thing, i began a six month diet (really must be 26 weeks), went to my internist every month for a weigh in and weight control talk. it was atkins by the way. then i re-applied. DENIED again. a nice nurse that i spoke to at intracorp told me that certain wording had to be in the letter from my internist talking about the diet. "medically supervised weight loss plan of at least 26 weeks in duration", "active patient compliance", and all visit dates documented- all need to be in the letter of appeal. i called every day to check my status and was floored to find out that i was approved... after i wrote this letter for my doctor and she signed it, basically. wishing you lots of good luck. my surgery is scheduled for 8/10/04. ellin
