Eating Fruit
I tried some fruit for the first time since surgery yesterday and I was so happy that I didnt have any complications. I had a big strawberry, a peice of watermelon, a peice of pineapple and a peice of honeydew along with a small salad for lunch. I never knew much much I missed fruit until I bit into that strawberry. Woo Hoo!
Carol,
I know there are many who have the surgery and become militant low or no-carbers and are quick to jump on others for having a sandwich. However, my doctor prescribes a heart-healthy diet with focus on reducing fat and sugar, portion control and moderation. I know what foods I need to avoid so I dont fall into the same patterns before surgery. I also know I will face numerous challenges with my diet for the rest of my life but I refuse to take on the Atkins mentality and not enjoy fruit or whole grains ever again.

Amy, it sounds like you're doing so awesome!! Some people dump on watermelon, so you're lucky you didn't. I would like to be able to eat fruit post-op as well. I plan to get my protein in first, but want to do a well balanced diet post-op. My dietician is militant against Atkins because she says in the long term, it's just not good at ALL nutritionally.
