Mady,
I didn't have Lap so I hope you dont mind me answering anyway. I had Open and I returned to work exactly three weeks after surgery. I probably could have gone back at two weeks except I was battling fatigue during the afternoons. I couldnt stand sitting around anymore and was so happy to get back into my daily routine.
Good luck with your surgery, it will be here before you know it

hey Amy...you know what's funny...we were both responding to each other's post...LOL...thanks for the info...I was worried that 3 weeks wouldn't be enough...but when the time runs out..I guess you have to go back...so how are you feeling..? I haven't been able to sleep very good...I think i've been nervous just waiting for them to call me with a date...i hope this nervousness gets better...i'm not used to being so uptight...
let me know how ur doing..and take care...
Mady
PS...thanks for wishing me luck...
Mady, I did not have lap, I had open, and the recovery time for lap is supposed to be shorter than for open. Remember I said supposed to be, it depends on you, everyone is different, and it depends on what type of job you have. I am an outside salesman I have a desk and driving job, I was working from home four days after surgery, and back in the office 12 days after surgery. Good luck, I hope I helped.
Hi Steve...thanks for the advice...of course it helps. I usually work on the field...but I will be having desk duty, which I hate but I know its better. I just hate dealing with pain...I really wish I could extend my recovery to 1 month instead of 3 weeks..we'll see...
take care..and keep doing a good job with your weight loss...
Mady
hi Linda..thanks for responding...i'm glad to hear all the positive feedback in regards to the 3 weeks...like I told Steve in my other post...I hate dealing with pain...and if I could extend it to 1 month..i probably would..but knowing that mostly everyone is ok in 3 weeks...then I'll hopefully be ready to go back....thanks
Mady
I having open on 8/11 hipppii. I have to be out for 8 weeks because you cant pick up more then 20 pounds for 2 months. Im freaking out becasue to come back to work (im a lt firefighter/emt) you have to this massive physical adgility test. Im talking hard. You have to run 5 flights of stairs with a highrise pack (whole bunch of hose) and get to the top and pull a roll of hose (40lb) up the 5 flights. Then run down and hit a sledge hammer on a piece of steel till it moves 10 feet. Then drag a hose 75 feet and flow it. The take the dummy from hell and drag 175LB of him 75feet. All this in under 8:30minutes. I get about 9:20 now. I m wondering if i will do it better 2 months post op because i will be lighter or do worse becasue i will be weak?
Also if i strickly cant move anything over 20 lbs for 60 days what makes it ok on day 61 to drag 200lbs and all the rest of the crap? Im very worried about this ... any one have any thoughts?

Mady--I had lap and my answer to you is it depends on your job. While I was physically recovered from the surgery at three weeks--I was exhausted and tired really easily. Even though it is lap, with tiny incisions, it is still major surgery rearranging our innards. Good luck on your surgery. Lynda ME/FL
