Anyone in Sarasota area or know about it?

I have been asked to move to Sarasota FL from Oregon. Could you give me any advice on the area? Any input positive or negative would truely be appreciated. I am postop RNY and have a 10 year old son going with me. Thanks for your help. Beth

Hi there Beth! I lived in Bradenton and surrounding areas for about 3 years in the 90's Beautiful place. Sarasota is south of Bradenton by about 10 miles. Lots of beaches and such. Houses are hard to find to rent but there are lots of new apartments and condos there. Are you taking a job there or are you looking when you get there? Living on the islands in the area is higher $$ but you can move to the suburb areas and prices are not too bad. You can pull up the newspapers on the internet for Sarasota, Bradenton and see the classifieds. Manatee Memorial does RNY which is in Bradenton. Not sure about Sarasota. There is a dog race track in Sarasota and the Ringling Brothers (circus) art Museum is there so there is great variety of things to do. Good Luck! Carol

Hi Beth. I know quite a bit about the area...also there is a support group that meets once a month in Bradenton. You will just love the area. A little warmer than Oregon this time of year...but it is summer. It is paradise, some of the best beaches in the world, very artsy, and lots of things to do. Hi Beth, I live here in Sarasota and Have for 30 years now. Its a beautiful place to live. Beaches and warm weather is one attraction to most people. There are alot of good schools here, private, charter and public. I know someone mentioned the support groups in Bradenton, there is one is Sarasota too. If there is something specific I can answer for you, let me know. I am pretty good with resources out here.
