Well as most of you already know I have kids and I am wondering how to make a living will or any will for that matter. As a matter of precaution I understand that this is a very necessary measure that I must take. Does anyone have a will? How did you go about it? Was this a family affair? Thanks to all for your Johanna

Hi Johanna! If you want to prepare it on online, got to legacywriter.com. It's $19.95 for the basic living will. My dad runs a cemetery and said that you can write out your wishes yourself and have it notarized. Your next of kin can give it to your doctor. It's just as legal that way! Hugs, Erika L

Johanna, You will need two witnesses who are not listed in the will or as POA to sign off in front of the notary. The hospital made copies of the living will and power of atty when I checked in. My family had my basic will in case anything happened to me. Since you have kids, this is something you should probably do anyway, with or without surgery to protect your/their interests. I did not want the State to get involved in my affairs. Now I have peace of mind because it is done and can always alter it in the future if necessary. Mine was a family affair in the sense that I told my mother and sister that I had elected them to be my executor and POA. I know it's kind of a morbid thing to think about but it really is a good thing to get out of the way now. I heard you can buy the basic forms at Staples or Office Depot then have them notorized. I know Erika gave you a website, there is another one too called Legalzoom.com that I had considered. I had heard about it on the news. Good luck, Amy

Joanna, Why don't you check out www.suzeorman.com or this link to be more specific; http://suzeorman.com/ultimateprotection.asp we did our own wills, durable power of attorney and trusts. Every form you will need and they are legal is on the CD and all you do is fill in the information. We have updated ours twice with the same kit. If you have anything at all you need to have it in writing. If I recall the only form that needed notary was the will, which we got done at our local bank.
