New to the area and have a ton of questions
HI everyone. I have just moved to Jacksonville and am totally lost. I am on Medicaid and am just now trying to find doctors for my regular health and have know Idea at all who to see about having this surgery. I dont even know if Medicaid pays for this tool any more 
. Can someone please help me. I am looking for a support groups as well. I have read some of the posts and just want to congratulate everyone for thier success and will pray that you have continued success.

What side of Jacksonville do you live on? I live on the westside and Michelle is on the southside. My primary doc is Dr. Corpus on Normandy Blvd. My insurance is Medipass and I was just approved for the surgery. Dr. Cox in Ft. Lauderdale is the only surgeon in FL who is accepting Medicaid patients this year. Medipass pays for the surgery. The only out of pocket expense is the nutritionist $50.00 and the psych evaluation $250.00-$300.00. The trips to Ft. Lauderdale are a little difficult, but you can do it!!!!! Welcome to the board! You have definitly come to the right place for info..
I also had no clue and learned just about everything I know from being here. 
I use Dr. Amer Shala he has 2 locations, one of the southside and one at the beach. I didn't even have a PCP when I found my surgeon. Luckily, when I found Dr. Shala though he was more then willing to support me in my decision to have WLS.
Like Erika said, Dr. Cox is the only surgeon accepting Medicaid right now.

Hello Shawna! I'm afraid I can't help you with the Medicaid issue, but I have been living in Jax for about 6 years now so if you need to know where stuff's at or have questions like that, just let me know! It's a pretty easy town to navigate, but definitely intimidating at first! Good luck on your journey

Thank you all so much for all your help and the warm welcome. I live over in Mayport. I would love to meet you all. Just tell me when and where and I am there... I am sorry I did not reply sooner but I spent 2 days in the hospital and found out that I have high blood pressure 
I am hoping that this new development will not knock me out of the running for this procedure. Again thanks for the info and if there is anymore you can tell me I would be most appreciated.
