Recovery question

I'm trying to get an idea of how others have fared with surgery recovery from an open RNY because I while I know that I can get time off from work to recover, I don't want to get behind in my online masters program. Will I be strong enough to read and concentrate on studies within a few days or a week of the surgery? Any input would be helpful. I'll be sure to ask my surgeon when I see him as well...
