The Psychologist said I have an eating disorder...and
she requires that I have to have 3 months of therapy for this before she will give me medical clearance..she is at the Bariatric Center that I went to...
We talked about my questionare..and my emotions...and why and when I overeat and or Binge..
I said I dont get it..a person that is 400+ lbs. overweight has to have an eating disorder. and they get approved..she said that if she feels that they do then she sends them for therapy also...
Doesnt everyone that is Morbidly Obese have an eating disorder...????
I am 40 BMI...5'1" and 215 lbs...I told her that Im stressed and have anxiety over wondering if I will be approved by my insurance co..she said that she finds that ironic..and I find that its perfectly normal...from what I read on the message boards...Help...Im upset...eileen
If I were you I would definalty ask my insurance company for a second opinion!! That is stupid of her to do. Of course we all had/have eating disorders, we were or are all FAT for some reason and if it was a medical reason that could be fixed another way!!
I would be on the phone right now and demand a second opinion. By Law you ins co has to give it to you!

Same thing happened with me and I have to do therapy also. Not necessarily for 3 months, but enough to where my new therapist feels I am ready and will send a letter to the psychologist at the center to let him know my problems have been worked through........ etc....
My advice to you would be to just go ahead and do it. It will really help you in the long run. Find a therapist in your area that specializes in eating disorders. That's what I did.
It will work out ok, just remember that.
Thank you..some people are telling me to go to another Psychologist...Im wondering if I should....
As a matter of fact..today I called a Psychiatrist that I had seen in the past......for 4 months...I went to him to discuss ADD...and medication...that I am now taking... I breifly asked the receptionist if I could get a letter from him for clearance...she said yes...theyve done it before for patients... I will be speaking to their office again in a few days about this...
So...what do you think....???
I say if they will give you a letter, then go for it. I totally understand the frustration you are going through. I was really upset when I was told I needed therapy. But, I know I will get clearance soon, probably in another 2-3 weeks, so I will be patient.
Just remember to be patient. It will happen. Just concentrate on getting yourself ready, watching what you eat/following any pre-op eating plans your Dr or nutritionist wants you to follow.
It will work out best in the end, I promise!
