Hi; Do you have United Health Care? Are you in a "Small Group" ? (50 employees or less) If so, have you recently been approved? If so, I would be very interested in talking with you. I went through all my testing, paid my administrative fees and when the pre-qualification was submitted was told by United Health Care my plan did not cover this proceedure. I was a little confused and called UHC. That's when they informed me that as of 4/1/03 ALL weight loss surgery had been eliminated from ALL small groups. As I did not receive that information with my renewal packet (I am also the Administrator of our insurance group), I was unaware of their change in policy. I just wonder how many other small groups were not advised of this drop in coverage. I have sent them a request for an appeal but, as yet, have not received a response. I would be interested in conversing with anyone else who has had this problem. Thanks, Kathy

I HAVE EXACTLY THIS PROBLEM. WAS DENIED BY UHC YESTERDAY. FOUND OUT THERE IS AN EXCLUSION IN MY POLICY. MY EMPLOYER SAYS I CAN LOOK INTO HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO ADD THE OBESITY CLAUSE TO OUR POLICY,BUT EVEN THEN I DON'T KNOW IF UHC WILL APPROVE IN FL. WAS TOLD BY UHC YESTERDAY THAT THEY ARE NOT COVERING ANY WLS EXCEPT IN MANDATED STATES. I DON'T KNOW HOW THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH THIS. I WISH WE HAD A STRONGER STAE GOV. I DON'T KNOW IF THE INSURANCE COMMISSIONER OR JEB HAVE THE POWER TO MANDATE, BUT I'M STARTIN TO THINK IT'S TIME FOR A PETITION. I HAVE PRE PAID LEGAL SERVICES AS ONE OF MY JOB BENEFITS, I MAY HAVE TO START TAKIN ADVANTAGE OF IT. GOOD LUCK. IF YOU GET ANY NEW INFO YOU CAN E-MAIL ME AT [email protected]
