Cigna

This is my first attempt for approval. And it is not easy. Cigna doesn't want to talk to the patient just the doctor. I do not know what was sent or not sent. They give you a 45 day window before they close your case and that is Friday. I guess I will have to start again. Did any one create a check list to use to get approved?

Brenda, Your doctor should have someone that files paperwork and works with the insurance company. Find this person and start today calling them over and over and over. I have Cigna as well and they are very distant from the patient. Start bugging the crap out of both before the end of day friday. Call Cigna ask do they have your paper work? FIRST!! On a good note I was approved and in less than 5 days. Most important thing they asked of me was a doctor's supervised weight chart. Good luck

I received the denial letter last Friday from Cigna. I was denied because I did not have 6 months on a Dr supervised diet program. I see my PCP every two months and we talk about diet and exercise every visit. Last week I sent a letter to my PCP explaining the problem with Cigna. Today, Cigna called my PCP. They asked - has she been on a 26 week supervised diet program and the doctors office answered "yes". My Dr also insisted that his nurse review a few of my co-morbidities with the caller. I am keeping my fingers crossed. A few prayers will certainly help. Also, I have not had any problem when speaking with Cigna - they give me all the info from the chart. I am now a bit confused and will call them again tomorrow because the letter said my PCP had to file an appeal and then they called him today? Good luck to all, Mary

I was denied by Cigna today and it has ruined my whole day. I hate it that their customer service reps. are clueless. I hate it that they will give you no info, only to the doctor, who the hell pays the premiums? I know there is money taken out of my check every payday, why is it I dont have the right to be spoken too? I called Cigna back in Aug. to find out if they cover the surgery before I would get my hopes up, well their clueless cust. serv. rep told me yes they do and my PCP would have to do the work up which was the bloodwork and such and they also told me I would have to see a nutritionalist and a Psychiatrist in which I did all this. After I had done all this and right before my consult with the surgeon, management in my company told me after 01/01/04 that Cigna would no longer cover this surgery. And after my consult my paperwork was faxed in and after a few days they had lost some of it at cigna and requested it be faxed again and it was. I called today and they tell me denied but would not give me a reason, I know of the 26 week medically supervised diet by coming to this site and I informed the clueless cust. serv rep about this today cause I am thinking this is why I was denied and I told her I was not told of this back in Aug. and she says they dont always know all the guidelines, that my PCP should have told me. Well I informed this bimbo that my PCP really didnt even know all I was suppose to do and I would think since this is a Cigna Stipulation that their clueless cust. serv. reps should tell people the guidelines when they call and ask about coverage for something. Any idiot can sit at the cigna computers and type in your SS#, I feel like I have dealt with nothing but idiots and I cant believe this company really sucks like this, how do they stay around? I will never understand it all. Cigna totally sucks. I am not really sure how to fight a big rip off company but believe me I am not going to give up.
