My name is Melissa, this is new to my husband and myself. We both are planning to have surgery and live in NAvarre, between Fort Walton Beach and Pensacola. I just realized today that there is a state message board and decided to post. We went to an informational meeting in Pcola on Thursday night with Dr. Suggs and I called Friday to let the office know we had approval for 4 visits each from BCBS, but we cannot be seen until we have our psych evals and dietary consults. The first dietary consult available is Aug 12...oh the waiting. At east we will see the psych doc this week, and he is highly supportive of our surgery, so we are hoping for good things from him. Would love to hear from people anywhere, but especially in our area who are planning on surgery or are post op. My husband is 33 and I just turned 30, so this is a big thing for us. The decision to have surgery was my 30th birthday present to myself. I am scared to death of Blue Cross Heath Options wanting 12 months of physician supervised diet history...I don't know if we can get it all together. I don't know if the docs keep track of every diet they give you. They approved our surgeons visits pretty quickly, hoping we won't have any problems. Both of us have BMI's over 50 with co-morbids of diabetes, etc. I enjoy reading about everyone's progress and thank those of you who share...it's helpfu to those of us pre-oppers out here.

Hi Melissa, I have BC/BS Health Options. I documented to the best of my ability all the weight loss attempts that I have ever tried. I gave them dates of duration of diet how much I lost and how long it took to regain the weight. I had all my doctors write letter's of necessity supporting the surgery. After I had completed everything and the surgeons office sent it in. It took 3 weeks for my approval. I got my approval on July 22nd and my surgery date is Aug 5th. I have just 2 more days and a wake-up. The letter from my PCP listed all my co-morbidities as well as my family history of stroke and diabeties. I hope everything goes smoothly for you and your husband. Good luck and I'll talk to you soon. Deanna
