I've been APPROVED!!

I got the call from my Care Plus insurance, this afternoon and an email from my surgeon's office. I've been approved for the Realize Banding onto my RNY Pouch and my surgery date has been set for now as Tuesday April 21st. WWOOOOHOOO!

The surgical team of Dr.Rehnke & Dr.Grossbard will be attending.

I made a difference in that my Insurance, Care Plus/Medicare denied me stating that Medicare didn't cover Gastric Banding and for that matter any Weight Loss Type Surgeries. I proved to them in my Appeal beyond what they suspected what a patient would do/go through to prove that they ARE Surgical Approved by Medicare and what is needed to get approval.

I got the feeling that I was their first client *****quested a Gastric Banding or any Weight Loss Surgery, through Care Plus. And I hope this will open their eyes and the gates, that these are Life Saving Operations.

Congrats Mike!  I have not seen you for a while, but I was wondering if I could come to one of your support group meetings.  I am still going to Morton Plant, but would like a change and there are times I cannot always make that one.  Hope all else is going good for you and congrats again.  Determiniation always wins!  God Bless.

NO This was the plan from the 1st day I consulted with Dr.Rehnke, my surgeon in 2005. At the time Lap Band was not covered by insurances. Plus I weighed nearly 600 lbs. So I wanted to lose it now. So we knew that eventually my RNY pouch would stretch and at that time, which is now. That then we'd place a band on the pouch. to lose the rest. So I had/have Malasorbtion and will be adding restriction now.

Many years ago when they first did the RNY they would also add a small metal ring just above the RNY pouch. Which is the same principal as placing a band on the RNY.

I'm not one of the first for this. But you'll be seeing alot of RNYs getting this soon.

That's fantastic! Way to fight back.

So many give up... perhaps that is what they were counting on.
