Orlando area?
Hello to every one! I'm 4 weeks post and still feel like I'm feeling my way through the dark about things. If you don't mind, I do have a few questions...
* what's the amount post surgery does everyone have?
* Jen, regarding your outing in April do you think it would be ok for me since I'm so new to this?
* what about exercise? I can walk about 10-15 per day. I couldn't do that before I had surgery.
*anyone have/had a g-tube? Did they find it painful and was it painful when it was removed? I have mine removed 4/6 and have had a hard time with pain during this time.
* how long did it take you to get back to work
Sorry for all the questions! But thanks for answering!
Oh one more important one...how do I get that ticker thing to work on my posts???
suzy

I didn't have an RNY so I can't answer most of your questions (looks like others can and have) but I would think at 4-5 weeks out that you can do it. We just go to a local restaurant, sit and chat - and eat. I went to my first one about 4 weeks out and I could only eat like 3 bites but it was worth going to meet other people in the area. We have a really fun group - they keep me entertained for sure! Hope you can make it - I'll post details soon.

Hi there
Dr.Jawad did my gastric bypass in October so I am 6 months out. I have lost 90 pounds with 70 to go. I had the gastric tube as well. Mine hurt too. It felt like a rubber ball and made sleeping in my bed very difficult!
It did NOT hurt AT ALL when they removed it. In fact it felt like a little tickle so dont worry about that! I went back to work after 6 weeks because of the tube. Walking as much as possible is going to help you lose weight faster. If you are like me, I couldnt walk vary far. I could only get dowh my road and down the block a little before I was in severe pain. Now I can walk more than a mile if I push myself with no pain! I would encourage you to walk as much as possible now and then do even more later! This is going to help you build good habits and later when your weight loss slows down you will be ahaed of the game. As for the group that meets for dinner once a month...join us! We have a great time yakking and smacking and noooooo it isnt too early for you to attend! I will help you stay on track! If you have any questions please email me at: [email protected] Also if you want to see my progress go to youtube and look for zipchick. Be sure to say hi to me in my comments or send me a personal message! zippy

UCF Area here. I'll answer those questions I can
* what's the amount post surgery does everyone have?
I assume you're talking about amount of food. I'm at about 1/2 cup all up - some days about 3/4 depending on what I'm eating. Early out you'll be nowhere near that amount though.
* what about exercise? I can walk about 10-15 per day. I couldn't do that before I had surgery.
Any exercise is good exercise, and you'll work up to more. I joined the Y for water aerobics, less painful on the joints (joint pain was one of my motivations for surgery). I do an hour a session 3-5 times a week.
*anyone have/had a g-tube? Did they find it painful and was it painful when it was removed? I have mine removed 4/6 and have had a hard time with pain during this time.
I left the hospital with no tubes. They pulled my drain about an hour before I was released - hurt coming out but was over in <10 seconds.
* how long did it take you to get back to work
I'm very fortunate to work for a good employer. i took two weeks off, could have been back at work after the first week if necessary, but took the full time to rest and adjust and recuperate. One of the best decisions I made really - trying to establish a routine is hard enough without trying to work your bum off too!
Best of luck to you!
EDIT: The ticker is fickle! Go to www.tickerfactory.com and walk through the steps. Try copying/pasting the code at the end into your profile on OH. Save the profile - until you save it you won't know if it worked, it will look like a web address until you save. If it comes up as a picture of the ticker you've succeeded! If it doesn't, try copy/pasting the second code and saving again.

I am Lake County so not quite Orlando. I am one week post op.
what's the amount post surgery does everyone have?
I am still on liquids and pureed food. Not able to get much in.
* Jen, regarding your outing in April do you think it would be ok for me since I'm so new to this?
I have never been to an outing but yes you should go.
* what about exercise? I can walk about 10-15 per day. I couldn't do that before I had surgery.
Just walking for now I am going to try and increase it some more today.
*anyone have/had a g-tube? Did they find it painful and was it painful when it was removed? I have mine removed 4/6 and have had a hard time with pain during this time.
Still have my gtube and have to keep it for 4 more weeks. It tends to hurt when it need to be drained. I have learned before I even attempt to get out of bed to drain it. It helps with the discomfort of getting up out of bed.
* how long did it take you to get back to work
I am taking 6 weeks because I have insurance and get paid. Doctor said I only need two. Not sure if I would have the energy to make it through a full day after only 2 weeks, but pain wise I think I would of been ok.
Good luck with everything!
