Tampa WLS Patients!!
Hello Everyone,
I am very new to OH and I would love to connect with some WLS patients from Tampa. I am looking for some advice about surgeons in the area, support groups etc. It would be nice to talk to some people in person for a change. Hope everyone's having a blessed week! I know I am! Please stop by and say hello, I'd love some new buddies!!

Alfredo Fernandez is awesome. He did my surgery. He operates out of Brandon Regional Hospital and Armenia Surgery Center.
You can look up his webpage at : www.tampabariatrics.com. He has monthly(at least) informational seminars and support groups. He is also a very nice guy.
Good luck with your search!!

I agree with the comment from Michelle. I too had surgery with Dr. Fernandez last April. In addition to the monthly seminars he has, there is also a patient led support group held the last
Thursday each month across from Brandon Regional Medical Center. One of his patients Gail also leads a support group in Tampa near Raymond James Stadium...there is actually a support group tomorrow Feb. 10th at 6:30 PM at The American Legion #248 2105 W. Jamaica St., Tampa 33607.

Hi Chrissy,
Dr. Gallagher of Tampa General did my surgery. I've heard mixed feelings concerning the office staff, but personally, I've not had any trouble. Dr. Murr and Gallagher have an excellent rating and Tampa General just opened a brand new bariatric area that looks alot like a fancy hotel room. I didn't get to stay after they opened, but while walking the halls, saw the new wing. Even so, my stay was very pleasent and the hospital staff (all except one 'having a bad day' nurse) were VERY compasionate, nice and friendly.

I am also in Tampa. I am in the beginning stages of researching/finding a surgeon. I had RNY in '97 and have regained a lot of the weight - so I am needing a revision. I have an appointment with Dr. Overcash in Ocala on Wednesday. I also have been researching Dr. Murr in Tampa. Unfortunately, about 7 years ago I had an unpleasant experience with Dr. Fernandez, so he is off my "list". Any other opinions out there?
