I do have Medicaid (share of cost) but I did not think they would cover wls.  If they do, what hoops do I have to jump through to get it?  Or do I just go to a doctor that accepts Medicaid and they do the rest?

Also, if this doesn't work I was thinking of getting a private health insurance plan (because I do not get insurance through my job), but does anyone know what company/policy would actually cover it, and also not make me wait a long time??

Thank you!!

I have BCBS and they were awesome to deal. I had no problems with them at all...

Just FYI, MOST private insurance plans will NOT cover WLS.

You could get a part time job at Starbucks.  Last I heard, their policy covers WLS and you can get their insurance if you work part time.

Medicaid will cover WLS.  However, you must have (3) 6 month Dr. supervised weight loss attempts before they will cover it.  Most pcp's who accept medicaid know about what is required. In Tampa, Dr’s Murr & Gallagher (wls surgeons) accept Medicaid. I had regular insurance and Dr. Gallagher was my surgeon. He was FANTASTIC. I suggest you attend a wls seminar from an office near you. Most are located at hospitals. Call your local hospital and see if they have a seminar and be sure to ask lots of questions. Good luck!
