My best recommendation is to do a lot of research yourself.  A big part of the decision will be based on your medical and weight specifications, but the ultimate decision is going to be based on what you are most comfortable with.

I recently went through lap band surgery, and made the choice because I did not feel comfortable with the idea of re-directing my anatomy.  While RNY is a great procedure, my research and understanding that it is often a better fit for the following reasons: serious medical problems w/ immediate need for weight-loss; over 50 BMI; the time frame in which you want to reach your goal; etc.

I can't tell you what is best for you, but I can share with you the decisions that made me choose lap band over RNY....
I'm 27, with no children and a husband.  I've been overweight my entire life, and have always struggled with losing and gaining - the innevitable yo-yo diet.  I have no major medical problems to speak of - I have high blood pressure and that's about it.  However, I knew that my weight was not making me any healthier.  My husband and I want to start a family soon, and I want to be at my healthiest for myself, my husband and my unborn children.  However, I have not put this weight on overnight, and I felt that I didn't need to take it off overnight.  I was no comfortable with the idea of re-directing my anatomy (as I mentioned before) and knew I would not handle the dumping syndrome well.  Since I'm wanting to start a family, this was the safest procedure for childbirth (all are safe, but this most recommended), and is adjustable.  For my lifestyle, I felt that this was the best idea for me.

One week in (and through the most painful and hungry parts , none of which was really painful), I don't regret a thing.  I'm glad I made this decision and have already seen results.  Woo hoo!

I read a ton on this website and did a ton of research on the internet, and that's how I came to my decision.

Best of luck on your quest....it will be amazing!!
