Sclerotherapy Procedure

I would very much love to hear from anyone who has had this procedure done.I had my original open RNY surgery in 2002.Since then ,due to my progresive laxness and family changes  and stresses,I have gained back some weight. It was so..oo.. concerning and disgusting me that I found myself either eating or hungry all the time.I know how food  has al  been my drug of choice under stess and  those old habits scare me to death!! I have had three appointments with a bariatric speciaist here in Ocala FL. and am now scheduled to have scierotherapy in a few weeks. The Dr. says ,after looking at a recent upper GI,my pouch has stretched  but feels our first line of action should be sclerotherapy.A revision would mean reopening the original incision and basically starting over.I would just like to hear if this procedure has been sucessful for others. Thank you!!!

Peggy-
You might want to cross post this message on the revisions board, if you have not done so already.  I hope you will weigh all of your options carefully, including revision to DS, which has been successful for many people.  I wish you much success.

All you really need to do is to post the same message on the other boards the same way you did on the Florida board.  Sometimes people do not read all the boards so posting a message on more than one  board may help you get the information you need.  To post to the revision board go to:  http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/revision/a,messageboard/bo ard_id,5360/   and to post to the main board:  http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/amos

Good luck.

I agree with Red to look into all other options for example the Stomaphx..on Jawads' page it says that the average loss with the scherolotherapy is 10 lbs. Doesn't sound like much when you consider what you may go through. With the stomaphyx the average is about 25 lbs (i think, Im no resident expert) then some people choose a full revision..however that is a decision you have to make based also on what insurance you have and what they will pay...best of luck. You did the right thing to do GI, they did one on me and found I have my pouch stretched though not to eating large amts of foods...and my only weight gain is abt 10-11 lbs the reason Im getting it done is Ive been having abdominal pain for 2 years and the dr thinks that Im having an automatic dumping symdrome and then the bowels are not processing all the food correctly. With a smaller pouch things should slow down and I should be able to process the foods better..this is my best guess at what they are thinking. I should be getting that procedure in the next 2 weeks so if yours in not any sooner..get back to me and I'll let you know how it goes.

hi Ruth, I asked DR. Jawad about thr Stomaphx procedure and his practice is not doing them. Seeing that my pouch has stretched I thought that procedure might be appropriate. He said that because my original surgery[openRNY]in 2002 was open to do an appropriate revision he would have to reopen an d basically start over. I'm definately hoping that is not the case! I'm sure insurance would nix that right off. Write back......Thank you so much.

Correct, Dr. Jawad doesn't do them. Dr. Hoddinott from Surgical Associates is now doing them. That is who will be doing mine. My original surgery is also/was OPEN as well. But the good thing about the Stomaphyx is that it is an endoscopic procedure (meaning through the mouth) and it's a couple hrs of surgery and Im home the same day and bck to work the next. And of course the plus is if I lose at least the 25lbs I need plus stop these abdominal pains Im all for it!! He had stated to me that he could shrink the stomach but I think that is a waste cause it can get large again and start this whole mess..I'd rather do the stomaphyx and get it done...ya know what I mean.

Hi Peggy! Dr. Overcash of Ocala did my original Open RNY surgery. He also does the Stomaphyx but so does his "partner" Dr. Hoddinott (352) 368-2828. Yes, Im not a patient Dr. Jawad but I know many of his patients and am a bit familiar with him.
My RNY was fully covered except for $500 and the Stomaphyx...not sure yet cause I have a different job and insurance..but I'm about to find out sooon.....LOL I'm at [email protected] if you have any further questions.
