Hi there!

So, I had RNY on 8/6/08. I had lost 27 lbs as of 8/29/08. Well Dr. Marema says my weight may plateau because my body will start to hold water. Should I have 2 week of "plateauing" (if thats a word. lol)?? Im getting nervous that maybe something is wrong and very upset that im not losing. I have been exercising EVERYDAY!

Don't panic!  I know that when I had my ten day appointment I was down 18 pounds.  When I went to my first support meeting two + weeks later I was only down 2 more pounds. I FREAKED Out about it.  But they told me to keep doing what I was doing... keep following your plan... and all the sudden you will wake up and will have dropped 5 pounds.  It is going to happen to you and it really is a good lesson for the future because this will happen alot along your journey.

Something I think people have a hard time doing in the beginning is trusting.  Trust yourself that you are doing the right thing.  You are following your plan.  Trust that the scale WILL move.  We are so used to years of getting on scales at weigh****chers/Jenny Craig/etc where we may or may not have lost this week (and we stripped down, peed first, and emptyed out our pockets) all to hope it only stayed the same at the very worst.

This is different.  You will start losing  alot of weight but it is both going to be fast and stand still all at the same time... you will only have a moment like this to look back on in three months to remember just how far you have come.

Keep the faith... you will succeed!
I am 14 months out and 130 pounds down.  I know you will be just as successful!

Thank you for the reply. I think you are right about the trust factor. Sometime I second guess if this will really work for me! I appreciate your advice. I will continue doing what I have been and wait for the scale to move again! =)

You're doing great.  Don't worry.  When was the last time you lost that much weight in such little time? You're body is adjusting to the shock of the surgery, malabsorption, trying to catch up. You will reach those plateaus every now and then.  Just keep getting in your protein, drink your water, take your vitamins, and continue exercising.  Sounds like you're doing the right thing so keep on doing it!

Feel free to holler at me at any time!

Well I guess when you look at it that way... NEVER! lol. I know that I will have plateaus but I just didnt expect them to be so early on. I have been doing very well with my diet etc so I will continue on my path....Cant wait for this to be over though!

Missy, check my profile.  We had surgery on the same day.  You are going to plateau - I did for a week...  even gained a few from an iv.  But- it started going down again...  It's really great you are exercising...  I am not there yet.  I walk...  but I just finally stopped having abdominal pain last week.  Also remember...  muscle weighs more than fat.

Thats really cool that we had surgery today! Happy to say I broke my stall. I lost 2lbs in my sleep last night =) Thanks for your comment. Glad to know my weight loss progress is "normal". Our  results are very close.
