Port Charlotte Support group

Our next meeting for all interested parties is this coming Wed 630pm  at the women's center across the street from fawcett hospital.  If you have had surgery, want surgery or just thinking about surgery please join us.  We would love to meet you!  Our support group is NOT affiliated with any particular surgeon's office.  Various surgeons utilized.

Thanks for the post katydidit64.  I don't drive and the time is working hours.  I am two years post-op, surgery was done at Cleveland Clinic Hospital, Weston, FL .. but after several trips back to that hospital and the two hospitals in Naples (where we were living at the time) and then in February, 2007 was transported by ambulance from here to Weston for a perforated ulcer that blew the stomach pouch out.  Port Charlotte was blessed by having a new doctor move into our area .. cause .. as you know .. we have no bariactric surgeons, other than Lap band, around here unless you want to make the trip to the Tampa area.  His name is Dr. Alex Grunerio and he is here in Port Charlotte.  He is director of bariactrics at Peace River Memorial Hospital, which is across the street from Fawcett.  His offices are located in the same group of buildings.  We were blessed with him as of April, 2007 and I have been a patient of his since then.  He does all of the bariactric surgeries .. from Lap band to RNY .. also has support groups .. one for pre-op and one for post-op .. it is either that .. or the post-op one is in the workings. May stop in to the group across the street at Fawcett sometime.  Do they have doctors and nutritionists speaking and giving help at these meetings? Thanks!!    

Wonderful  I am glad you found him... he approached our group about merging with them but they couldn't find a time we all could agree on and since this group had been in existance for several years without being affiliated with a particular surgeon decided to keep em seperate.  As far as speakers go... we don't really have a program like that... we focus on education, nutrition, plastics and helping others (with our past experience) figure out the ins battle.  More like a social educational group!  Hope we get to see yasometime! have several people that come in once monthly due to their work schedules... where there is a will there is a way!  Ps the group is held the 2nd and 4th wed of every month.

Thanks for the invite and will keep you in mind.  Please let anyone know that hasn't had the surgery done and lives in this area that Dr. Grunerio is the best doctor anywhere and really cares for his patients.  You are never just a "number" with him or his staff.  All of them are the tops!!

 I live in ***** Gorda and will be having my surgery Aug. 13th in Sarasota Memorial. Lap RNY. So glad to find you here on the FLorida Forum, I have a support group once a month in Osprey, on the 3rd Thurs of the month..I would love to come to yours sometime in the future, after I am able to get out and drive of course. So keep me informed you can email me also..
