Surgery out of the state?

I asked my surgeon specific questions about follow-up care since he was so far from me.  We DSers are quite used to having to travel for surgery since there are so few DS surgeons.  For the most part our surgeons are accustomed to working with PCPs and other specialists to ensure we get the care we need.  And it was my surgeon who told me that pretty much once I had the surgery -- should I require any sort of emergency surgery that it could be done by a good experienced general surgeon.
