Brevard County (in or near) surgeon recommendations??

I got a made up mind--I'm doing Lap Band.   Can anyone recommend the best local surgeon and/or tell me who to stay away from?  Thanks so much, you all inspire me. Nicole

Hello neighbor! I live in Merritt Island. I haven't had my RNY yet. I'm still waiting on my Psy & Nut evaluation to come in and then its on to the approval from my insurance. I can't wait!!!! I have all of my ducks in a row....so to speak. Do you have insurance? I'm having my surgery done by Dr. Jawad in Ocala.

New to the board--forgive for repost. Thank you both for your replies. Are their other doctors either of you researched before deciding on Dr. Jawad?  Why did you select him? I also learned that my insurance (Health First) doesn't seem to cover bariatric surgery...

Hi Victorious_one! I also was told my insurance (Anthem BC/BS PPO) doesn't cover the WLS.  I am still doing all the evaluations needed and I am hoping that persistance will pay off as I plan to write the insurance company and appeal and appeal and appeal!  If they still won't approve, then I guess I will have to pay out of pocket.  At this point in time... I am willing to do that.  Thank goodness that my husband is on board and says we will find the money somewhere if insurance doesn't cover it. I just signed up to go to Dr. Jawad's seminar on May 10th.  From all my research, I hear he is the best.  Funny thing - friends in Texas and New Jersey who have both had the surgery  in their respective states have heard of Dr. Jawad and said he has an excellent reputation nationwide!  I think that speaks volumes that this Dr. is well known in the WLS circles. I was also wondering if anyone knew of a local Brevard County support group.  Thanks! Cathy

oh no, Im so sorry to hear that... but dont give up!!! I did research other docs... we dont have many near us, and I did not hear good things about Dr overcash (Heard his nick name was overslash??lol), but heard SOOOO much good about dr Jawad, and formed the same opinion after my surgery, good bedside manor, always available...just gotta call and ask, Kevin, his nurse is wonderful also who I see for follow up. I have heard voc rehab can help people get the bariatric surgery. Good Luck and God Bless!!! Dawn

Overcash...overslash...oh yeah, he's outta here!  lol I'll check into voc rehab.  I'm pretty healthy and my BMI is 36 I think, but something's gotta give.

I did hear some things lke that pertaining to Overcash but he does have some happy people.  Isn't Jacksonville about 3hrs from Melbourne?  I am going to have Dr. Steve Webb do my procedure.  I haven't heard any complaints and since I am a self pay I want good and affordable.  Voc Rehab???? How do people get it paid by that?  I have seen it on other forums where they have paid for WLS.

I had RNY April 12 with Dr. Jawad, and so far  I am very pleased.  The staff was very helpful, and Dr Jawas was the best. I would suggest you check him out.  For brevard county I went to several Dr's before deciding on Dr Jawad in Ocala, he was well worth the travel.
