I am currenty into my 3rd month of my six month required dr. supervised diet and I have only lost 1 lb. to date.  I have started doing a liquid diet to help speed up my weight lost.  My question is if I lose too much weight by the end of my 6th month do you think insurance will deny my claim for the surgery?  I just feel so miserable with all this weight on that I would like to try to lose some weight prior to the surgery.  By current BMI is 42 but I I lose the 10% it would fall to 39.  I do have high blood pressure which might help my case even with a BMI less than 40.

I have Aetna Insurance and I also have to do a 6 month diet plan with my Doctor. I'm currently done with my 6 month diet plan and I gained.....granted I moved up & down on the chart. I also have high blood pressure and my BMI currently at (as of last week) 37.7. If I were you....I'd probably try to loose, but not too hard. This way your insurance will qualify you.

I have cigna ppo I am finishing my last of my 6 months thank God.I have lost around 45lb my bmi is still up there. My plan on cigna states that with comorbidies your bmi only has to be above 35 so check your plan but you should be fine. My pcp also told me to slow downmy weight loss at this point as to not give the ins company any reason to deny me again lol. Good luck. Laurie

I have Cigna and am on my 5th month.  My physician and nutritionist both told me that they count the BMI from your original bariatric consult.
