I hope I'm not getting too excited, and I'm trying not to, but I just realized that I have already completed a six month supervised diet by one of my doctors at the medi weight loss clinics. Yay..I think this should be acceptable for the insurance company!!. I just completed it in October 07, which is only a few months ago... Does anyone think there will be a problem with that...I'm scared they will make me start over.. And I am thinking about scheduling with Dr. Larson in Lake Worth, anyone else see him? Thanks, Tea

I have BCBS and at least for my policy, they no longer require the 6 month supervised diet. Good luck!

Very nice All policies are different but usually the 6mo supervised diet has to have been with in the last year so you should be good to go. I met with Dr.Larson and he seemed very nice. Laurie

Hi Tea, I have bcbs and my 6 month diet had been 3 years prior to when I submitted for surgery.  Dr office did not think they would take it but they did.  You should have no problems because that was just a few months ago.  Good luck. Sandy

ok - I have a question. I'm switching to BCBS PPO. Will I be covered for surgery? Do I call BCBS or my HR dept to find out? Was it a mistake to switch from Cigna? I wasn't thinking about surgery when I switched.

I am in a similar situation.  I have my consult Friday, March 14th with Dr. Jawad.  I have a support letter from my cardiologist, my endocrynologist, my PCP, my diet history, and my psy. evaluation.  Is there anything I missed?  My insurance is BCBS Florida Blue Options.  Begin. in January 2008 they will cover only "MEDICALLY NECESSARY" wls.  Anyone out there have Blue Options too? Thanks, Tracy

Augh!! My pet insurance peeve is the veribiage of "covering if medically necessary." It's a peeve because to insurance most times, "medically necessary" means that you need to lose weight for an organ transplant or something equally catastrophic. As if wls was cosmetic!!

Grrrrrr!
