OT: Can I Vent?
Okay, I'm in some pain tonight and trying to stretch the amount of time between narc doses. So I thought, hey, let's browse through OH! We all know how time flies while doing that.
I read a post on another OH board about how one person has her birthday today and it sucks having her birthday on 9/11. Actually, it turns out that there are quite a few OH folks celebrating today as well. (If you are one of them - Happy Birthday!)
Anyway, the thread eventually turned into a place where people were posting things like, yeah, 9/11 was a tragedy but so was Oklahoma City, WWII, etc, so get over it. Or, I'm sick of hearing about terrorists and 9/11. Stuff like that.
And that's their opinion. And it hurt. But for those who lost a loved one six years ago today, we are affected by 9/11 on a *daily* basis. There's no once a year reminder and that's it. I cannot turn off the TV to get away from it. Just like a death that any of us experience, it is with us every day. It's just more public, with the story dissected in excruciating detail.
I don't know why I needed to get that off my chest (excuse the pun), but I did. Thank you, family, for letting me vent.

I don't want to belittle the loss of lives on Sept. 11, 1001, but WHAT about the lives lost at Pearl Harbor?, Iwo Jima? All of the Korean or VietNam Conflicts?
There are losses of life each and every day, some much more violent than others.
Only time heals wounds. It will take a full generation of people passing before the terrorist attacks of that day become a distant memory.
Public ---THAT is what makes this tragedy all the more painful. It is blasted across our TV screens too often. I am sure there are those that wi**** would just GO AWAY--so they can heal. Hard to heal wounds when the "scabs" are constantly being ripped off.

My father fought and was wounded in WWII, but there's a difference to me between being killed or wounded going to war and those who were killed or wounded going to work. War is a calculated risk, and as sad as it is when a soldier is harmed, living in the United States isn't supposed to be fatal.
I'm sorry you're in pain from 9/11 and I hope you can heal. We all heal in different ways.
Please note---Pearl Harbor--we were NOT part of WW 2 at that point. Our ships and airbases on Hawaii were ATTACKED. Thus, there IS a difference.
Yes, they men were in the Navy or AF or Army, but our nation was at peacetime prior to Dec 7th , 1941.
ONLY after the attack did we declare war on Japan, and thus the Axis powers of Germany and Italy.
President Roosevelt was trying very hard to keep us from being pulled into WW2. Alas, we went to war on BOTH fronts.

The thing is EVERONE has lost someone one way or another...and we all handle grief different ways...some people get angry and withdraw and others have different reactions..even on their birthdays being on 9/11 - it isn't their fault that such a tragedy happened that day!!! To add to the sadness of the day....we got news that a former manager died in Hawaii while on vacation..just sooo suddenly of a brain aneureism and 2 other co-workers found their 2 year old in the pool and the baby is in a coma........But it is as you stated that day is more public and dissected in detail as are others events..but either way they should not be minimized in the least. Glad you vented....
