I am gonna have the RNY surgery on Wednesday in Ocala, anyone having surgery the same day? I have missed quite a few post, my computer crashed, so here goes, since I have missed out..
I wnat to know everyone who has had the RNY what am I to expect and what have you experienced?
What are the do's and don'ts you have experienced?
And if I remember correctly I was told to bring a pillow and chap stick are the two most important things to bring?
Anything else Please let me know.
Thanks to all.....I am getting nervous again...
Hi!
A pillow and the chap stick are definite must haves. How far are you driving to Ocala? Dr. Overcash was my surgeon too. My surgery was in Feb. I have lost about 125 pounds since then.
The worse things I can remember after surgery were the first couple of times I got up (I felt like I had been hit by a bus) and the leak test (Nasty bitter tasting stuff you have to drink). It is over with quickly but I tasted the stuff for hours afterwards.
The nurses did let me keep some ice water by my bed. I didn't drink it but I did brush my teeth and rinse my mouth with ice water and mouthwash a zillion times a day. Your mouth gets so dry! My lips were sticking to my teeth when I tried to speak because my mouth was so dry. Oh and one more thing when you try to get up from the bed, chair or toilet remember that it is far less painful to push up than to pull up. When you push up you use your arms and the large muscles in your legs when you pull up you use your arms and abdominal muscles.
Hope all goes well for you. Keep us posted on how you are doing!

I just had my surgery in July and I will tell you the best thing I brought was my robe. it was freezing in the hospital. Other than that I made my poor husband cart this super large suitcase of stuff and almost none of it did I use.
Here is a hint regarding the day before. they are going to perscript a liquid to make you go to the bathroom.. get the lemon lime and put it in the fridge the day before. it makes it taste better. plus try not to eat heavy the night before. makes the trips to the bathroom go easer.
hint number two.. he probbly will tell you to be at the hospital at 6am. be there early. I got there exactly at 6am and I was one of the last to be operated on. It works on a first come first serve basics.
If you want to talk about it more please email me.
