Bob,  I work in Tallahassee, but live approximately 20 miles away in Wakulla County.   You might find Wakulla Springs State Park interesting.  It is what I call "Old Florida".  You'll see a lot of wildlife including alligators.  They have a glass bottom boat ride that is very enjoyable -if you like that sort of thing.  It's about 30 minutes south of town.  For more information try the following link: http://www.floridastateparks.org/wakullasprings/default.cfm For more information on other state parks in the area, try this link:  http://www.floridastateparks.org/FindaParkRegion.cfm?Dist=No rthwest Fishing is really good on the coast here, but I wouldn't recommend swimming.  For more info on fishing, try this link: http://www.fishingcapital.com/ For more information on visiting Tallahassee go to http://www.visittallahassee.com/, if you have not already done so. I really enjoyed touring the capitol and some of the museums in town.  Also the Florida State University campus is here- you might find it interesting to visit the campus or catch a game at Doak Campbell Stadium.  One of my favorite places in Tallahassee is the Museum of Florida History.  See below for more information.
Museum of Florida History
The official museum of the state of Florida since its opening in 1977, the Museum of Florida History collects, preserves, exhibits and interprets evidence of past and present cultures in Florida. Permanent exhibits range from the prehistoric to the 20th century and include a nine-foot mastodon skeleton, the St. Johns Diorama (depiction of an early Timucan Indian village), a recreated 19th century steamboat and a tribute to Florida citizens in World War II. Mon-Fri 9 am-4:30 pm, Sat 10 am-4:30 pm, Sun noon-4:30 pm. FREE. Guided tours Mon-Sat 10:30 am & 2:30 pm; Sun 2:30 pm.

There are rentals on the coast, but they are 45 minutes to an hour away from Tallahassee.  My in-laws stayed in St. George, but again that's a distance from Tally.   Enjoy your visit(s) to Florida and I hope you find this information helpful.

Hello AbbieMarie - this is a Hijack!   I see you're also Dr. Sieloff's patient.  I see you're a newbie & hope all is going well for you!  Isn't Dr. Sieloff wonderful??!!  I hope to see you at the Bariatric Center support group meeting tonight!  We also have a local support group [email protected]  (there is an _ underscore between wls and tallahasse in the address).  Our group is open to anyone regardless of surgeon or surgery type.  Although most are RNY patients we also have some DS-ers and LapBand-ers, too.  We meet twice a month.  Our next meeting is next week at the Olive Garden.  I'll be glad to give you more info if you want to e-mail me personally. Hang on b/c you're in for a wild ride but it is sooooo worth it!! Vickie J.
