Strange happenings....

Do you still have your gall bladder?  If you do have it checked.  It may have to be removed.  Sounds very familiar to an attack I had pre bariatric surgery.  My gall bladder was horrid the surgeon said.  Flared up so fast.  Hoping you find out what the issue is.  Also call your surgeon and have him do a look see if it is not the gall bladder.

Nope, Dr. OC removed it 8 months after my RNY surgery. But it seems to be in that general area. I did call him on the Friday incident. My friend said that he said to go to the ER and that he wasn't available and said - okay bye and hung up. I did send him a CT of my abdo pelvic when I went to the ER on 6/22..just waiting for him to review.

Hello, I am chiming in on your post. I hope you do not mind.  I would say forget your surgeon and see the GI doctor.  A GI would be able to do all the exams that you really need.  Like you said this surgeon seems to be busy, but obviously did not care when one of his post op patients called him with an emergancy.  I would say waiting more that 2 weeks for someone to read a scan is alittle ridiculous. I think he should have called you by now, or I would be calling his office everyday leaving messages for his nurse to respond.  You have been too patient with this guy.  That is just my opinion.  Good luck and I hope you never have to get those pains again.

Hi Eli - no I don't mind your input. Thankfully I will be seeing the GI this Wednesday - but I'm nervous about him cause I saw before and he had me admitted to the hospital when I was having my then gallbladder pains and after an endoscopy and CT determined I only had "sludge". When I spoke with my surgeon he said I had to have my gallbladder out and he did it within the week. That was the end of that. But with everything I have done to help this particular surgeon I would think he would show some concern..but I guess with time and not being an "actual" patient they don't move as fast cause it's not THEIR pain. Im crossing my fingers on this one. Thanks for your concern. Ruth

You really have been quite the spokesperson for your surgeon and that attitude is really unfortunate (I'm being kind).  My surgeon insists that we HAVE to call him if we go to the ER and the hospital here in town knows to call him first.  When I had my gall bladder attack, which felt EXACTLY the same, he was called and he AND his associate both came to see me.  Actually, the associate (Dr. Shebani) heard my name in the nurses' station and stopped in to say hello, but didn't charge me for anything, as he was just being a friend.  Nice, huh?  Now THAT'S a surgeon! The only thing that is different between the first gall bladder attack and the other attacks is that I had an elevated lab.  Dr. Jawad took out my gall bladder a month after my initial attack and though I had to go to the ER once after that because of this mystery pain, I had no elevated labs like I did with the gall bladder.  Funny how these attacks have completely disappeared, but knock on wood, I'm not complaining about that!!! Again, sorry about the way your surgeon acted.  I like knowing that I am my surgeon's patient for life.

I should clear up that when I had my gallbladder situation OC acted appropriately and did the right thing, and took care of me. I  was referring that NOW that he doesn't seem to interested in helping figure what is causing this strange pain I'm going through. I say that cause he is busy with the stomaphyx seminars and surgeries etc. I did send him a CT Scan of my 6/22 incident but have had no response. The GI Doc I plan to see - is not any better truthfully since he was the one that said that I had "sludge" when he diagnosed my gallbladder situation and said I could stand to lose a meal! I guess those things occur with medical people..they have issues with us and we have issues with them..but we keep them in business so they should give us a bit more importance, I think.

Since I know firsthand the pain you are experiencing, even if it is intermittent, then I still say that your surgeon should help you.  The seminars and new patients who are coming to the office thinking that the Stomaphyx is for everyone and not just post-ops should not have priority over his current patients like you, especially since the pain can be so horrific.  A current, established patient in pain like you HAS to come before a new patient.  It's only right and I'm so sorry you aren't being given the priority you deserve.  I do hope that you find help somewhere!

Thanks Jan..I thought maybe I was being silly about it - it's good to know it's just me. I will be seeing this GI doc tomorrow (thank God)...but usually on the first visit they do nothing so I might have to wait some more..I'll let you know as soon as I can..if he can hazard a guess as to what he sees in the Scan. Thanks for your words and concern. I really appreciate it!!

It isn't just you and you are not being silly about it.  That pain is very real. I'll be interested in what you find out!  I wish you good luck!!

Make sure you stress you are a post op Briatric patient.  Our systems are different now and some GIs are not equipped enough to deal with it.  I am surprised your surgeon had such a laissez faire attitude.  Mine would have admitted me and been there to treat.  I would call your surgeon again.  Speak to him yourself and express your concerns.
