Approved for surgery, can't find a surgeon

Hello, I was finally approved for bariatric surgery through Medicaid, which some may know as almost impossible. Now that I'm approved i can't  find a sugeon anywhere in florida that accepts Medicaid. I'll even go as far as alabama if I have to. I've called the numbers I was given at this site but they no longer accept it.  If there is anyone out there who knows of doctors that will accept this type of coverage, would you please let me know? I am at my wit's end right now and feel like giving up.... thanking you in advance, Moni

I have medicaid, and there alot of doctors that take it...Dr. Wizman in Margate takes it.

I am new to this state, maybe moving here. I am curious, how can you get approved for surgery w/o a surgeon to send in the info? Don't you need a surgeon before you get approval??

Moni, This can get kind of confusing but beat with me.  It depends on what medicaid plan (or sometimes called product) that you are enrolled in.  A few months ago I went with a friend to an information session and appt. with the Bariatric Coordinator for Dr. Gordon and Gonsalvo in the Clearwater area.  It is my understanding that they accept only the Stay Well medicaid Plan/Product. Dr. Kim at Celebration in the Orlando area I believe accepts Medicaid but a different plan.   So you may have to call them and ask what Medicaid product they accept and hopefully one of them will be the one you have.  I have to tell you that I have heard great things from people about both of these surgeons and someone posted saying  that Dr. Wizman accepts some form of medicaid.  I have heard great things about him as well!  I was quite impressed with the seminar that I attened with my friend for Drs. Gordon and Gonsalvo! So Moni don't give up and keep burning up those phone lines until you find one who accepts your plan.  They are out there!  Hang in there my friend! Kat

Thank you so much for your help! Unfortunately i couldnt reply as quickly as i'd liked to, but it was wonderful to come back and see people trying to help out. I will call these doctors on monday, please keep your fingers crossed. It is so HARD to get approved by Medicaid as it is, but its obvious that it doesnt end with being approved lol... I will keep dialing and hopefully something good will come of all this before its too late. Oh, and I have regular Medicaid. It takes having a really caring doctor to get you approved for surgery, because of all the hoops they have to jump through to get their patients approved. Thankyou all SOOO much! Moni

  hi iam patty and i an having the same problem only i have healthease cant find a dr who takes it i also have made many called.  if u heard of any please let me know and i will do the same  good luck to you  patty
