I just got insurance approval today for a revision to the RNY.  Dr. Overcash is the surgeon.  I live in SC and I am driving down to Florida for the surgery.  How many days did you spend in the hospital and did you have any post-op problems?  I really would love to hear from anyone who used him as a surgeon.  If you got any advice or suggestions please let me know.

Congratulations!! You'll do GREAT. I'm assuming your having the stomaphyx or a revision of the RNY? Dr. Overcash is an EXCELLENT surgeon, and he's TOUGH on his patients!! So be ready for that but that toughness helps us to stay on track even yet 1 year after last seeing him I still remember if he was tough on me and that reminds me to get back on track. The best source of knowing more is to log on to our online support group at this link: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/floridabariatriccenterw lssupportocala/ Im sure since he's a Northern Carolinian, you've had tons to talk about already!!! Welcome again, and Congrats!! Ruthy

Hi! I had open RNY with Dr. Overcash in Feb.  He saved my life twice that day!  First by doing the procedure on me and secondly by knowing just what to do when serious complications arose (my heart stopped on the table).  Since I have lost about 120 pounds since my surgery (and 74 before) I have a new life and Dr. O is largely to Thank for that.  I do not think you can find a more technically skilled surgeon out there.  As Ruthy said in her post he expects you to do what your told and if you don't he will definitely let you know about it when you come back to him.  On the other hand I believe he was as happy for me as I was at my last visit when he realized I was over 100 in about 4 months.   You will be in good hands with Dr. Overcash. Hello, I had an open RNY with overcash about 9 months ago. I spent 2 nights at the hospital. I had no complications, but felt like CRAP for a good 2 weeks. I am totally happy with my choice, he's good & tough. How long do you plan on staying in FL before driving home to SC? I would try to stay as long  as you can before attempting that drive home.  Good Luck to you, You made a wise choice with Overcash!!

Why wouldnt you want it done the LAP way and not opened???  Its so much safer and you only stay in the hospital one night and go back to normal functions in 2 weeks?  I wouldnt want that long UGLY scar on me and have hands inside me putting infections in me.  Good luck if your getting cut opened!!!!

Trac, there are different lengths of stay for the different procedures.  The new Stomaphyx is overnight on a rear occassion but usually you go home the same day. This procedure is done right now for Post-RNYers as a revision to make ones pouch smaller that may have stretched larger. And it's performed down the patients throat. Laproscopic Bandings are over-night right now due to Insurance requirements but in the near future patients will go in, in the morning. Have the procedure done wait a couple of hours then go home the same day. Most all other procedures wether done open or Lapro equal a few days in the hospital. Lap is a day or two shorter than the open but the decision to do it Lap or Open is the patient's decission unless a patient's size comes into the play of surgery safeness.
Open RNY 5/10/06 and now
Laparoscopic Realize Banding. 4/21/09
9/1/09 I've rec'd 4 fills and lost 86 lbs. so far.
