My surgery is Tuesday and someone asked me if I had packed yet.  I don't even know what to pack? Any suggestions? -Marianne C.

Nothing, just walk around Neckid, oh yea they'll supply you a gown! But really now just wear something loose & comfortable to the hospital which you'll also wear home. Place a pillow in the car fir the ride home to hold on your belly for any bumps. So unless you want/need something personally in toiletrees, you won't heed anything as they supply that suff too. Are you the only one scheduled for your day? Best of Prayers for you & your surgeon's steady hands,  Mike

Thanks Mike. Actually I have no idea if there is anyone else scheduled that day. When I met with Dr. Gonzalvo on the 2nd he thought I'd be the first of the day because at that point he didn't have anyone else scheduled for that day. But he said it was up to the hospital and I wouldn't know for sure until the day before.  -Marianne C.  PS... thank GOD I won't be waling around "Neckid"!  I'd hate to be making everyone in the hospital even sicker than they already are!  -Marianne C.

Personally these items were my lifelines... Ipod - I went into the operating room with Gloria Estefan playing - Party Time. (Dr Rosenthal is cool) He knew that this would calm me and promised to keep it playing till I was under.  Toothbrush - the hospital ones are horrible and fall apart.  Mouthwash - TRUST ME!!! Baby wipes - they will keep you feeling fresh Mag/newspaper/book - whatever you enjoy.  sneakers - because you need to Walk from the moment the Dr and nurses say walk! Remember that and make it your mantra!!!!!

Thank you!  I can always use some extra cheer!  Hey and your idea to bring some mouth was is a good one that I had not thought of!  I promise to drop you all a line as soon as I can.   Hey does anyone know if my hubby brought my laptop in if I could use that? Do hospitals have wi-fi?  I'm going to be at Morton Plant in Clearwater Hugs, Marianne C.

Truthfully, you are going to go from the OR holding area to the OR to intensive care to a regular room all in a day in a half, and the next day, you go home.  You probably won't want your PC left unattended - also, you will be nodding on and off throughout your stay, and your computer will be vulnerable!  I don't know if you'll really feel much like typing while there.  Not sure if they have wi-fi.  I know that the other week when Greg was in Bayonet Point they did not.  I could have used it because I did not leave his side, and I missed a LOT of work - wish I could have brought it for MY use!

I was thinking of having my hubby bring it up to me and keep it with him but it sounds like I won't be there that long. I thought Doc said I'd be there till Friday most likely.  But you're probably right.. I won't feel much like typing. I'm just thinking about sending an email to my friends and family who I can't really call.  A lot easier and less time consuming than a bunch of phone calls. I guess they'll just have to wait.  I see on one of the boards that some hosptials have a website where a loved one or friend can post your status and people can log on to check. Nice idea.  -Marianne C.

Yeah - they told me Friday too, but I said otherwise! LOL  Actually I went home Thursday night.  Dr. Gordon really didn't want me to leave, but he knew what had happened with the anesthesiologist and how ticked off in general I was, so I guess he figured a matter of just a few hours (it's all it boiled down to) didn't matter that much, and I was doing well - no major complaints or complications.  He did make me do a second swallow test to be sure there were no leaks before he signed me out but by 10 p.m. Thursday I was home.  My surgery was also on a Tuesday.
