One Year Surgiversary
Hi Everybody,
Well I have been lurking a lot lately and have not been posting much. Howevery I just realized one year ago today I had my gastric bypass surgery. Wow what a year. I won't say it has been the easiest year of my life but it has been a year of changes. I have gone from 260 lbs to 144 lbs. At my heaviest I wore a tight size 24 and my shirts were 1x. I now wear size 8 pants and shorts and small to medium tops. I wouldn't mind losing another 5 lbs or so but I am certainly not going to sweat it. The nutritionist I saw before surgery said I should aim for 170 and I surpassed that so I am happy.
The only trouble I had related to the surgery was that I was pretty nauseated the first 2 months or so but then that slowly went away. The other issue I had at about 3 months out I developed kidney stone (that was rough) I hope I never have them again so I drink my water religiously.
Now I went into the surgery with super bad arthritis in my knees and the right knee just never did feel better even with all the weight loss. So April 17th I had my right knee replaced. I can't tell you how much better it feels. My last physical therapy appointment is tomorrow. Besides the Gastric Bypass the Knee Replacement is the best thing I have done for myself.
I still have severe issues with my back, but getting the weight off and getting one knee feeling great has been a huge accomplishment. Hopefully this next year I will just let my body continue to recover and hopefully just continue to feel better.
It was a busy year and a lot of recovering, but I would do it all over in a heartbeat.
Thanks for listening and all the support.
Hi Marianne,
Thanks, it has been a trying year but also very rewarding. I see you are going to join us on the losers bench here in a few days. I wish you all the best and will say a prayer that you have an uncomplicated surgery and a very quick recovery. Just something that helped me get through those first couple months, just remember every day things will get easier and better. Hold on and enjoy the ride. It is a ride like no other. Take care.
