Dr. OverCash

Has anyone here used Dr. Overcash for your weight loss surgery?  I am considering having a revision from an old mini gastric bypass and Dr. Overcash suggested that I have an open RNY.  I am nervous about an open surgery.  I've also heard through the grapevine that Dr. Overcash can be abrasive and has a poor bedside manner.  I don't know if that is true but I would like to here any opinions anyone has good or bad?  Please let me know if you had any complications?  Thanks.

Hi Darnell - I posted a response about this on your question on the RNY thread.  I would recommend you also see Dr. Jawad prior to making a decision.  If you want it done Lapar., Dr. Jawad would be the one to do it - he does most of his surgeries that way and is very experienced with lap.  If you speak with Jawad and Overcash, you can better make a decision.

Mary, since Darnell has already had one procedure there will be too much scar tissue inside the body to manuveer the tools to preform a Lap Roux-en-Y. Dr. Overcash is a fine Bariatric Surgeon.  And he only does Bariatric Surgeries now. Dr. Overcash is too the point and straight forward. If you don't follow the Post-op care he knows it and it'll show because you've either gained or not lost any poundage.
Open RNY 5/10/06 and now
Laparoscopic Realize Banding. 4/21/09
9/1/09 I've rec'd 4 fills and lost 86 lbs. so far.

I have heard Dr. Overcash is a great surgeon. I know nothing of his bedside manor.  I used Dr. Kim at Celebration Hospital in the Orlando area. I think he is great. When I scheduled the apointment at the Bariatric Center there were 2 surgeons to chose from. The gal asked me who I wanted to see and I told her I wanted to see the one that was more likely to hold my hand. She told me I wanted Dr. Kim. He is compassionate, but tough. He will let you know if you are doing someting wrong.  Interview more than one surgeon and then decide who works best for you.

jon always by you.

Hello, I used Overcash & am very happy I did.  I really like him, he does not sugar coat things, he's not going to baby you & if your messing up he will tell you & I need that. I had no problem with his bedside mannor, he did what he needed to do & did a great job & wants to make sure you are a success. You can tell he truely cares about us.

I am having a revision on August 29th.  My RNY will be open because my original surgery was open.  I am nervous about it but I have total confidence in Dr. Overcash.  He is a very skilled surgeon who has done over 400 revisions.  My initial impression of him was he was hilarious.  He has a great sense of humor.  I am going to do everything I can to use this surgery to my advantage because i don't want to see his bad side. LOL. Good luck to you.

Steffie, What type of surgery did you have previously?  Why are you having a revision.  I was just wondering.  My first surgery was not an effective surgery and I want to be revised to an effective surgery.  If your last surgery was a RNY why do you think it failed?

I would consult with Dr Overcash, Dr. Jawad, and Dr. Robert Marema, IMHO. Dr. Marema is the founder of US Bariatric and heads the St Augustine office.

Hi there, I had a VBG in 2001. Allot of surgeons dont even do this surgery any more because of the high failure rate.  You can read why I failed at this surgery on my profile if you'd like.  Bottom line,  I have total staple line disruption and i am almost exactly the same weight I started out.  Dr. O is going to convert my VBG into a RNY.  I am really excited.. Have you gotten insurance to cover your revision?

I"m a OVERCASH patient and I didn't know about OC nor OH until after I met him and have had nothing but a good experience. He is not perfect...no one is but he is the BEST surgeon - especially in revisions and now he is involved in this new procedure - Stomaphyx.  An open RNY is way better cause he gets in there with a clear view of things especially given what you've had done and he goes to work quickly..so as someone else posted you need him to SEE what the other surgery looks like inside and get it fixed properly once and for all. I did not have complications at all. He wants you back to work in 2 weeks and in most cases people are back at work in 2 weeks.  Complications - no one can predict them depends on a lot of factors not just on the surgeon. I will tell you OC doesn't mince words - he will tell you how it is before the surgery and in some cases his expectations after....it will be up to you to follow the rules cause he wants you to succed. You will not enable you. You will meet with him up to a year after surgery or untill your weight stablizes so he's with you through alot of the process to ensure your progress. I think you will find some commonalities with OC since he's originally from North Carolina - so you should have some fun talking about the carolinas. Please sign up with his yahoo group and see what the other patients have to say if you need further opinions. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/floridabariatriccenterw lssupportocala/
