URGENT REPLIES NEEDED!!
SORRY TO SOUND ALL PANIKY HERE, BUT GOTTA TELL U ALL SOMETHING. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE WORSE SHARP STOMACH PAINS OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS, MOSTLY AFTER EATING AND DRINKING, SO TODAY I HAD AN ENDOSCOPY AND FOUND OUT THAT THE SMALL GASTRIC BAND THAT WAS PUT IN PLACE DURING MY RNY 19 MONTHS AGO HAS ERODED THROUGH THE LINING OF THE INTESTINE AT THE SITE OF ULCERATION. THE BAND HAS TO BE REMOVED ASAP AND I AM WAITING ON WHEN I WILL HAVE THAT DONE. I SPOKE TO MY SURGEONS OFFICE TODAY AND THE NURSE TOLD ME THAT THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON THING HAPPENING TO PATIENTS AND THAT THEY STOPPED PUTTING IN THiS SMALL BAND LAST YEAR USED DUE TO THAT FACT. MEANWHILE, MY GI DR WHO DID THE ENDOSCOPY TODAY TOLD ME THAT IT'S A 1% CHANCE OF THIS HAPPENING, SO WHO DO I BELIEVE? ANYWAY IF THERE IS ANYONE OUT THERE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO, PLEASE LET ME KNOW, I AM NOT FREAKING OUT TOO MUCH BUT OBVIOUSLY AM CONCERNED.

Joanne, no you are NOT freaking out too much. Thank God you had it checked out, and they found the problem and can do something about it. I don't have "experienced" words of comfort to offer, but if it helps, please know that you are not alone. PLEASE do keep us posted - let us know when your procedure is scheduled. I am keeping you in my prayers.

I am seeing Marema august 14th, but meanwhile, i did talk with Dr Perez this evening, and he has assured me that it can be done through a GI dr, and he recommended the ones they use for this procedure. He also told me not to worry and its not urgent and has happened a lot with his patients. Of course I still want to get it done asap as I am going to London in September, and I am in so much pain after I eat.

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems but glad to hear you've already had it checked out. I had asked surgeon if he used the "stoma ring/band" b/c I'd heard they kept the stoma from stretching wtih time. He told me he did not use them b/c they sometimes did exactly what your's had done. He tends to be conservative and I guss he was right - as usual!! I hope you can get it taken care of soon so your London trip isn't impacted. I wish I could go to London with you!! It is my favorite city in the whold world!!! Hang in there & keep us posted on your progress!
