Lap-Band Brand?

Does anyone know what type of lap-band that Dr. Jawad uses on his patients? Maybe it depends on the person? Second question, for those of you who are self-pay for lap-band, what is the cost of each fill? I will be doing all of my fills/follow-ups at the Orlando office.

The band that's usually does, usually, depend on the person. When I was banded in 2005, Inamed made the band in 2 sizes and the smaller (size 4) band was pretty much being phased out and the larger band (a 12) was being used more often.  Now, as I understand it, there's a newer band out there that's just come in to use in the US.  I haven't seen it but I hear its much better. Every doctor is different and charges different prices for different things....just like they all have different eating programs, alike but somewhat different.  I've heard fill prices from $150 to $400 so I'll be anxious to hear what one of Dr. Jawad's patients tells you. Good luck on your journey.  Its well worth the money.  You'll do just fine. I'm a support group leader here in Jacksonville so if I can answer any questions for you or help you in any way, please let me know.  I'd be honored to help, if I can. La Wanda

Hi La Wanda   I'm a new member and reside in Central Florida.  I'm in the process of insurance approval and just wanted to know how you did after the Lap Band.  I am really excited about have the Band, but am somewhat nervous about afterwards.  Any info you can provide would be appreciated. TY

Hello Michele.....I did amazingly well after being banded.  At my one year anniversary, I had hoped to hit the 100 lb loser mark but I missed it.  I was down 85 pounds but my surgeon said that was "on target".  He said most people hit between 80 and 100 on the anniversary.  The weight loss after that gets slow. My sister and I were banded on the same day and she's had 2 subsequent surgeries.  My surgeon has done over 600 bands and hers is the only one that ever slipped.  Then she had to have her port replaced and got a new low profile port and it was moved to the other side of her body because she'd had a port infection. I did have a port infection and they are more common than I realized.  No particular reason for them but antibiotics (sp) will clear them up.   If I can help you in any way, please don't hesitate to contact me.  If you'd like to be on the group email list where you can ask your questions and get some answers, please email me at [email protected].   Any time you're in the Jacksonville area, let me know.  I'll meet you somewhere and we can visit and chat and just enjoy the fellowship.  I'd look forward to that.
