I'm having open RNY on August 15th.  Has anyone on here have Dr Overcash as a doc.  How was he with the pain management and surgery? Thanks Kathleen Spring Hill Fl

Kathleen - I am not a Dr. O patient, but I know he has a support group through YahooGroups - if you go there and do a search, you should find it, and they can help you with the specific pain management question. Mary

Hi. I had surgery with Dr. O on April 11,  in fact I have my 3 month follow up tomorrow. While you're in the hospital you will have iv pain medication along with a button to push to administer more as you need it.  When they sent me home I think I had about 2 weeks worth of pain pills.  I certainly had enough pain meds to get me through my recovery. Best of luck JCS

Dr. Overcash - as you are founding out through the yahoogroups is VERY good at what he does. He has different bedside manners because I've heard both sides - good and "poor". Mine was okay - I was on good drugs and didn't care for conversation but he's a person that drives you to be the best you can be. During the hospital stay you're on good meds and if diabetic they take care of your needs - and I'm sure with whatever else. However, it also depends on your pain level - what you can tolerate. Once I left the hospital I was given a script for meds but didn't need them. I was a bit uncomfortable but nothing that I needed medication for. 8 months later I had to have my gallbladder done by OC and that was totally different!! That was done lap and for whatever reason was soooo painful!! When I left the hospital for that I went straight to the pharmacy and got my pain meds and used them everyday til I felt better.  So it really depends how you deal with pain as always if you experience something weird after surgery - you can always call the office at any time and they are available. Best of luck 8/15 is just around the corner!!
