I just realized I could post to state specific here .. LOL . so forgive me if this is a rerun of my post in the main forum.  My name is Pam .. I'm 41 and live in Jacksonville FL.  I have been overweight all my life and have done research through the years on this surgery. I am 290 and 5'9 (actually 5'8 and 3/4 but close enough LOL).  I have Type II Diabetes, High Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure and a little more! I called my insurance company and they cover this kind of surgery ... I looked up Doctor's and picked out Steve Webb and already called his office.  There is an information seminar on August 9th .. so I'll go from there!!

I don't know if I'm really a good candidate or not right now .. because I had a total abdominal hysterectomy done on December 5, 2006. It was an open surgery .. so I feel if I can handle that kind of pain and recovery ... the Laparoscopic RNY should be tolerable .. I would think .. LOL  but not sure if I have to wait a certain timeframe from this last surgery .. I will find that all out in August. I appreciate you all being here .. and love reading your stories and seeing your pics and hearing the successes!! Definitely an inspiration!! I look forward to meeting you all!! Pam

Dr. Webb performed my surgery on 11/15/06 laproscopically and other then the pain the first few times getting out of the hospital bed I really had NO pain.  I was discharged and came home still not alot of pain but I did get sleepy in the afternoons for the first week so I took a nap. I was back to work the following Monday.

Hopefully, your appt. in August will provide you the go ahead to proceed with the surgery. Keep me posted I'm in the Middleburg area.

Hi Pam---you are going to LOVE Dr. Webb.
Ask LOTS of questions at the seminar--he or his staff will answer them. Once you get thru the process and Dr. Webb has a look at you, he'll be able to tell you about having LAP RnY.
Keep us all posted

Hi Pam, I am from Jacksonville as well.  I went to the seminar at Memorial Hospital with Rhonda...got some good info!   I met with Dr. Webb's office manager, who seemed to be very nice, but it just was not within my budget.  I ended up going to Dr. Jawad's seminar in Ocala and the staff was awesome and even better, the price was right for me.  I am having my surgery in just 2 weeks.  I really can not wait!!  Other than this liquid diet I am on for 2 weeks, everything is going/has gone smoothly.  I have read many stories that every doctor will consider the hysterectomy when seeing if you are a good candidate.  I had a lap hyst about 3 years ago, and that was fine, but I don't know about it being an open one.  I just ordered the Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies book from Walmart.com...I hear alot of people recommending that one.  You will learn something new everyday!  As I have been told, research, read, question and research more.  The internet has best my best friend and biggest tool since considering this!  Good luck to you!!

Kim
