Recommendation for Bariatric surgeon

Hi everyone, My cousin who lives in Florida would like to have the RNY and would like to hear about your experience with your surgeon and care in Florida. Thanks in advance.

Steve Webb in Jacksonville, FL Super nice man, very capable and works out of Center of Excelllence.

What part of Florida does she live in? Will she be Self-Paying or use Insurance? If Insurance, which one? Will she travel anywhere within Florida or want a Surgeon close to her home? And which of the Surgeries would is like to receive? I used Dr.Ernest Rehnke in St. Petersburg, but can recommend others as well. It'd be best if she'd look above in Bariatric Surgeon's and veiw their reveiws, Mike

I'm using Dr. Yasrebi in Jacksonville.  I can't say enough about his care.  The first time I called his office (wasn't even a patient yet) he got on the phone and talked to me personally.  The initial visit he sat one on one with me for two hours finding out everything about me.  He was once the Chief of Surgery at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville.  He's been doing bariatric surgery for 27 years.  He only does RNY and the skin removal surgeries most bariatric patients need.  In 27 years he has never lost a patient and never had an infected incision.  He had one patient over the last 27 years that had to be admitted to ICU.  This is because the patient took aspirin and bled quite a bit.  His bedside manner is unreal.  He spends so much time with the patients before surgery.  The day of surgery you are his only patient.  He sits beside you in the recovery room to make sure you wake up.  He's the one that takes you for your first walk.  He's the one changing your bandages.  The first 10 days after surgery he calls you personally every night, and you call him first thing in the morning.   I can't say enough good things about Dr. Yasrebi.  I've met several patients he operated on recently and several years back. His self-pay option is $20k.  It includes everything.  He even takes the gall bladder out if you still have it, so you won't have to come back to have it removed later.  He still uses a g-tube on each patient.  This is so you don't go any time unable to take in protein drinks, medicines and nurishment.  At first I didn't like the idea of it, but I realize it has a huge positive gain. I'll be using Dr. Jawad in Ocala.  He is a center of excellence - and I have been thoroughly impressed.  His previous patients all rave. He also uses the g-tube - which people love to hate - but from what I understand - reduces the post surgery complications and lessens malnourishment significantly... his website is jawadmd.com

I use Dr Paul Wizman for my fills.  I have a gastric band but It was done in Monterrey Mx by Dr Roberto Rumbaut. He is a amazing  surgeon if she was willig to travel .Just a thought .Anyways The WIZ MAN  is in Margate Florida but he does have more RYN patients then lap-band .Its just much easier for me to have a fill here at home instead of traveling to MX each & every time.

Hi ~ I live in the Tampa Bay area, and interviewed SEVERAL surgeons before choosing who I consider the "Best of the Best" - Drs. Richard Gordon and John-Paul Gonzalvo, members of the Morton Plant Hospital Bariatric Team.  They truly had the best comprehensive team, from the office staff, to the professional (nursing) staff, to the hospital facilities, and of course the surgeons themselves.   Also, after attending various support group meetings of Tampa Bay area (Pinellas County) surgeons, this team offers BY FAR, the BEST support group around!  The coordinator, Julie Douglass, RN not only leads our groups, but she is also a very successful WLS graduate!  Everyone affiliated with this team is absolutely superior.   Best of luck to your cousin!  I am always happy to share my wonderful experience, and if your cousin would like to contact me, my email address is [email protected].   ~ Terri
