Hi! I am 4 yrs out from wls! Went from a size 24 to a 10. I work daily on keeping myself healthy and a size 10! It is not easy! Ok I have a friend who had wls and is getting ready to release a WLS book! Can you help me find her talk radio shows to do author interviews? If you know of a radio station that does Talk or interviews Please email me the call letters and numbers, the city & State it airs from, and the host name if you know it! This is considered Public awareness! People need to know WLS is not for everyone! You need to do research and follow your Dr's rules! Ok can anyone help me with Talk radio shows? Thanks! See ya lighter? Cyndi

No., it is for wls! Well it is meaning for people to do research! Do what is right for them, don't jump into it without knowing all the facts before and after. I am so Thankful wls was good for me! I do have a good friend who stoped at McDonalds on her way home from wls! She about killed herself! She lost 100 pounnds and now has gained 150lbs! Why? Because from day 1 she did not follow her wls Dr rules! Then sometimes folks do follow the rules and things inside go wrong! Ok I am off my soap box! See ya all lighter! Cyndi

I realize that the NewsTalk radio station that I work for does not answer to me, but I believe WLS is a life-saving procedure for so many and I've seen some radical people who are violently anti-WLS.  I was just checking.  I don't recommend WLS to others without talking about the responsibility of following the plan and making the necessary changes, so I do know what you mean. Anyway, I work for WOCA, 1370 AM, Ocala.  The host who will decide on his guest list is Larry Whittler and you can find more information on our website at woca.com.  Mention my name and he might be even more likely to consider the interview. Our biggest competition in the area is out of Gainesville called SKY.  I have no information on this station, but you could probably google them.

How can it be considered a public service if she has a book to sell?  I would think if she is plugging her book that takes it out of the area of public service.  Then she is like any other author trying to sell a book.  For that she could just buy the radio time. Red

Well she has a set number of books she is giving away, on the air she is not selling her book! She has an 800 number that the listeners can call to get the book for free! Then once you have the book, in the back is her web site, contact info ect.. if your friends want one they have to order it. Once the radio show is over for the day the 800 number will no longer be good. There are many stations out there looking for authors to interview.  Some stations do author interviews for free. When your a new author you cannot afford to buy radio time but for every book you give away, the people show it to their friends and their friends order it. Make since?? I sure think the public needs to know about WLS! So many people think it is a fix all! So many people don't do their research. Or people who don't need wls think they know all there is to know about it! Just my thoughts! Cyndi

Then she is still selling her book.  I agree not enough people do their research -- how many people even know what the DS is?   Red

Actually Cyndi is right.  My NewsTalk radio station does a bunch of author interviews all the time.  We have interviewed (watch me butcher this name) Kahliah Ali, the daughter of Muhammed Ali, who has written a book on her lap band and advertises on this site. We also interviewed that woman who lives in New York and was on Oprah after having lost 300+ lbs.  Her name is Stacey Halprin. It's considered a public service because some of the information coming out of the books is educating the public and our station donates all the books to a local church.  NewsTalk format is also entertainment, so even if the author is selling their book, it's the station that decides if the programming would be entertaining to the listeners. As a station, if we mention where the listener can buy the book being discussed, it's a small price to pay for our free programming.  It's win-win really. Cyndi, if you PM me and tell me the name of your friend, I'll let the station know to watch for the name.

I can see your point.  And I never claimed to be an expert on radio -- just presenting my take on it.  I still think it is self promoting.   Red

Oh, it's definitely self-promoting, but because it also gives NewsTalk radio stations something interesting to talk about, it's a win-win. Actually, you can also think about it like this.  On the Today show this morning, they are going to interview Daniel Radcliffe.  He's not interesting on his own (perhaps) and hasn't made news, except he has a little movie coming out today - Harry Potter.  This is definitely self-promoting or promoting the movie, but the folks watching the Today show will be interested in the interview.  This is the same thing on a smaller scale. Your opinion is very valid.
