Does anybody know,or know where I can get information about percentage of people *****gain weight versuses people who keep it off after wls.

I have been trying to find out. We have a family function Wednesday. Unforuntaly, I know it will be "discussed" about how WLS is not a good thing, people gain weight back (which I know can and does happen) etc. I have reasearched this. And am going armed and ready. Any help would be appreciated.(sp)

Thanks you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know of any perticular website to check this out. But your the only one who knows yourself and your determined-self as to how you'll do. Ot is a fact though that those who continue to go every month to their Support Groups do 100% better than those who seldom or never attend any Support Groups and follow-up with their Surgeons.

I'm guessing that typically that information would be kept by each surgeon's office to determine if any what amount of their patients' have regained weight  - IF that surgeon is interested in keeping that record. The only other way is to create a web page and do your own survey by asking a number or a given number of people what if any if their regain amount.  It really varies alot!!

Personally I would tell the family that you're not in it to regain weight - I don't think anyone goes into this whole process of pain/surgery, etc to have weight regain but over the years if we get into old habits and forget the 'rules' it happens.   That's not to say everyone is like that..but it happens. What percentage - is anyone's guess! Best of luck to you!

You could probably do a PubMed search and find some studies on this.  Are you interested in one procedure in particular or WLS surgery overall.  I have some studies on the DS. Red

I remember being told that you will regain about 10 lbs from your lowest weight.  That is what I did, body stabalized out.  Now how many people gain weight, is those who stop watching sugars, or start eating sugars in the first place, who add carbs, who don't exercise.  We can change our body and not our habits and sabatage ourselves back into fatville.  It can happen, and it does unfortunately.  The only guarantee is you, making changes, having an accountability group, your own determination and self will. Hope this help! blessings, Tami

I haven't seen any statistics and my surgeon said that none of his patients have gained back their weight (but I thought to myself, yeah the ones you know about). Other people at this gathering can discuss it but you can just sit there and listen and nod  your head at about every other sentence you hear.  You don't have to defend yourself to anyone.  You know that wls gives you a powerful tool for obtaining and maintaining a healthy weight and if you don't use the tool correctly, you probably will regain most of your lost weight. My understanding is that 98% of morbidly obese people who lose a significant amount of weight will regain it plus more without surgery and that with surgery, 80% will be successful.  Gimme those odds anytime!
