According to the studies I have read the DS does have better long term weight loss and maintenance of that weight loss.  And when you couple the fully functional stomach and the malabsorbtion there are fewer restrictions on what we can eat and drink.   Red

TO BE HONEST, AND THIS IS JUST FOR ME PERSONALLY, I AM ACTUALLY HAPPY TO HAVE MY RESTRICTIONS, AS IT MENTALLY STOPS ME FROM GOING BACK TO MY OLD FOODS THAT GOT ME INTO SO MUCH TROUBLE.  I WOULD BE LYING IF I SAID I DIDNT MISS THE SWEETS, BUT I DO MISS THEM ONLY WHEN I SEE THEM THOUGH. BUT FOR ME HAVING THIS SURGERY IS NOT WORTH ANY CAKE, COOKIE, FRENCH FRIES, ICE CREAM OR ALCOHOL ETC TO JEOPARDIZE WHAT I HAVE COME SO FAR TO ACHIEVE. THANKS RED AND TAKE CARE, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

Joanne- I firmly believe that WLS is not one size fits all.  That is why we have choices.  I know that I would have been miserable with the RNY -- but it is a great surgery for others.  Enjoy your success, you deserve it.  And I truly hope your friend gets along alright. Red
