Can anyone tell me the reasoning behind this test? It is part of Dr. Jawad's protocol. Not usre why I would have to have this done if I have no stomch pain, ulcers, etc. Ali

Hey Ali,

Im pretty sure it is just to make sure of the condition and placement of your stomach, also to make sure that everything looks like it is in good order to be banded.  I had a weird experience, when I had my upper GI done they found I had a horizontal  stomach instead of a vertical orientation.  Weird.  Looks like it will be fine and Dr. Jawad isnt concerned, but that is an example of things that could occur.

My surgery scheduled for August 3rd.. good luck with yours :)

Not all surgeons do it..but Im sure it's all precautionary - and to see what is inside before going in. Sounds like a good idea to me. Best of luck to you!

Hi Ali, From what I understand, the UGI is done to make sure there is no disease process going on in your stomach before surgery,  because there will be no way to see the lining after it is stapled off. Linda
