i am anemic and have to have iv iron therapy

Hello,   I had RNY in 2002 and have been dealing with anemia ever since. My hemoglobin level is 8.1and the hemotologist has ordered me to have weekly IV iron therapy for 4 weeks.  Has anyone ever had to do this? is there any negative side effects that i can expect? How long does it take to get the iron infusion?     thanks dearly,  tina kerns

About 10 years ago, I was on IV iron therapy.  I was told it is a lot better than iron shots which are painful and leave staining on the skin.  I was on the iv for about an hour at a time.  I really don't remember having any negative side effects.  I had it weekly for a few months.  Good luck to you.  You will probably feel a lot better.
