Dr. Jawad

I called Dr. Jawad's office today about getting a new patient appointment. I spoke with Sandra and after answering some questions, she scheduled me for the new patient seminar on 7/3/07 at 9:00am. Can anyone tell me what I can expect at this seminar? What happens after I complete the seminar? She said she would be mailing me some paperwork to complete and bring with me. She also said to check with my insurance to find out about coverage. I do have coverage after certain criteria have been met. Is anyone going to this seminar on 7/3/07? I would love to get some feedback on this office, the seminar, what I can expect, etc. Ali

Hi Ali, Let me see if I can answer your questions about Dr. Jawad. It all depends on exactly what your going to. Are you actually going to the office for the new patient consultation or to an actual seminar held in Kissimmee, or Ocala?  If you are going to the office, your day will consist of a group of people in the front office where a few individuals will come out and speak to you about the procedures, explain everything in detail etc. and then you will meet one on one with Dr. Jawad. They will then give you all the scripts to get what tests done you need to get done. After that you get your tests done, submit all the paperwork and Odayls in the insurance department will submit to your insurance company.  Once approved you'll then get you surgery date and your pre op date. Dr. Jawad also requires a 2 week pre diet before surgery that consists of 2 protein shakes a day and one low fat/ carb, high protein diet. That pretty much covers it for now. Joann, That is a very good question! I am not sure exacty. After I spoke with Sandra I found the information on his web site about the Kissimme seminar so I called her back to see if I could go to that one. She said that one is different from the one I am going to. She then said after I have the surgery I can do all my appointments at the Orlando office. Eli, Maybe you can answer this? Do you know the difference in the two seminars? Also, what has been your experience with the office staff at Dr. Jawad's? My husband's cousin had gastric bypass 2 years ago with Dr. Jawad and he had a lot of problems with the office staff and getting approved. Ali

Ok, let me see if I can help claify things for you!! Basically the seminar and the new patient consultation discuss the same things. I never went to the "seminars" I went straight to the new patient consultation in the office. Both are group settings. The seminars are for people who are wondering what surgery to have, what the qualifications are, etc. The new patient consultation, also a group setting, gets more into what you have to do, the things you need to get done, education, etc. So they are kind of both the same but yet different. The seminar too I could see people going to to see if they like the surgeon. I had already made my mind up on what surgery I wanted and what surgeon I wanted that's why I went straight into the new patient consultation instead of going to a seminar. If this is who you want and the procedure you want, in my opinion skip the seminar and go straight to the consultation. As far as the office, personally NO I have never had a problem with them. Some people have had a rough time. It can be hard to get through at times. It's a pretty busy office. But they are on top of things. And you need to stay on top of things with it also on your end. Especially the insurance company. A lot of people get that the insurance company never received the paperwork, etc. But there are a few tricks up the sleeve I'd be happy to share with you if needed on how to get through without getting frustrated.  I had 2 surgeries with them and my husband had one and neither one of us had any problems.  So if you have any problems, let me know, like I said there's a few tricks to help you along with that!! And yes they have a satellite office here in Orlando. They are here every Monday. They also have one up in Jacksonville. So much more convenient than having to keep going back up to Ocala for things. You are going to his office for an appt on 7/3.  That is for a consult with him.  There is a seminar this weekend in Kissimmee that he is having. They are two completely different things.  I just thought it might be good for you to go the the thing this weekend to get a feel for this doctor, and if for some odd reason you do not like him, you cancel your appt for 7/3.

P.S.  I might just switch my appt to your day too. They say its like a group appt.

I guess that is why I am a little confused because Sandra was making it sound like a group affair. I saw that there was a meeting at Osceola Regional on 6/23, but when I asked she said that was different. I am much more excited about this one-on-one thing I am scheduled for on 7/3. Let me know if you change your appointment so we can arrange to meet that day. Did she send you paperwork by mail? She said she was sending me a packet that I needed to fill out and bring with me. She is mailing me some paperwork too.  Just to let you know the appt on the 3rd is going to be like a little seminar in the begining. They said it will take like 4 hours in total.  Are you not going to the seminar in Kissimmee then?  I am still going.

I didn't realize that it was on a Saturday. What time is it? Do you have to register to attend or can I just show up? Maybe I will bring my husband to that one. Ali
