Lab Work Question : )

Well I finally have an appointment with my PCP.

I am wondering if I should request he order any specific lab work/blood work.

It has been 8 months since I had my surgery. I am the first patient of his that has had the bypass and he was a sweetheart at helping me with great documentation required by my insurance.    I just wanted to know if anyone has any input or info that I should maybe be bringing up with him at my appointment next week. Hope everyone is having a great day! Margo Marie

Also ask for the B12, Chem panel, Liver functions, and should see your vitamin levels. If you have your appointment before 7/14 bring to the meeting and we'll look it over with you. The B12 levels are the most important. I forget to tell my doc to always check that when I do my labs.

Doesn't Dr. Overcash order labs for you?  I have a CBC, CMP and B12 as well as a TSH every 6 months.

I would call your surgeon and ask what he/she wants.  It seems not all surgeons request the same labs at the same stage post-op.  And be sure that your PCP faxes the labs to your surgeon.

Very rarely will your Surgeon be the Doctor to order up the Follow-Up Blood Labs. Your Primary Doctor will do these and as we know most Doctors have no idea what Labs are Post-Op Required for a Bariatric Patient.  So you need to INSIST what LABs you want checked. But Always get a Copy of the Results for yourself that you can also share with your Surgeon for his records on yourself.
